Aston, PA – The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce the college commitment of goaltender Louis Finnegan to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to further his education and hockey career this fall.  Finnegan, a 6’2” goaltender from Pinckney, Michigan played a season and a half in the orange & black, joining the Little Flyers in January of 2022 after the leagues winter break.  Prior to coming to Philadelphia, Finnegan played in Sweden after his final year of 18U hockey with the storied Compuware Hockey program in Michigan.  In his first season, Finnegan posted a 4-1-1 record in six games with a 3.12 GAA and .899 save percentage.  “We are all proud of Finn and what he has accomplished in his time here with the Little Flyers.  We really relied on him down the stretch, maybe too much at times but he is a gamer and he got us to where we wanted to go” said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.  “Finn saved our season in overtime against the 87s in Game 3 with that huge sliding kick save and then turns in two big performances on home ice in round 2 against Maryland in front of a packed house giving up one goal in each game to get us back to Providence.  He is a hard-working kid that will continue to get better and better, it will be nice to see him and Shane Green back on the ice together next year for MCLA”.   The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, located in North Adams, MA will return to the NCAA ranks this fall for the first time since the 2002-03 season.  The Trailblazers will be led by first year Head Coach Jeremiah Ketts who was previously on the staff of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth.

“I’m proud to announce my commitment to play NCAA Division III hockey for MCLA.  I want to start by thanking my parents, grandparents, and all my family, friends, and teammates who have supported me throughout my career.  I wouldn’t be where I am today without any of their trust and support.  Thank you to Coach Catron and Anthony Lorusso for giving me the amazing opportunity to be a part of the Little Flyers family, and I want to thank Jimmy Blanchard and Tom Nugent for their belief and support of me as well.  I’d like to give a special thank you to the Dowling’s, especially the big guy, for being a home away from home and for making my last 2 years of junior hockey special.  Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Ketts and MCLA for giving time this incredible and unique opportunity to be a part of their program, and I’m looking forward to keep living out my dream” said Finnegan over the weekend.

This season, Finnegan posted a combined 17-12-5 record with a 3.06 goals against average and .910 save percentage.  He finished in the top 15 in the league in wins, shots against, saves and minutes played.  Finnegan made a career high 44 saves in a 2-1 victory against the Protec Jr. Ducks on October 13th.  Finnegan was also named a South Division All-Star as a part of the Eastern Hockey League’s All-Star Showcase series against Lebanon Valley College.

On behalf of the entire Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization, we would like to congratulate Louis and his family on Louis’ NCAA College Commitment to The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and thank him for his constant leadership and contributions to the Organization throughout his time representing the Little Flyers.
