Aston, PA --  The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce the college commitment of Aaron Catron to Plattsburgh State University to continue his education and hockey career.  Catron, a 5’11” 165lb forward from Middletown, Delaware began his junior career with the Little Flyers during the 2020-21 season.  He played in two games, registering three assists before returning to his 18U team to complete the shortened Covid-19 Youth hockey season.  “This one is obviously a special for me personally because of my relation to Aaron, but he’s earned it with the work that I’ve watched him put in since the day he touched the ice when he was a kid.  Being able to Coach your nephew in his first and last career junior game is something that means a lot to me” said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.  “It’s always a unique situation when you bring someone in at the deadline, but having a bunch of guys that grew up playing with and against Aaron made it an easy move that was welcomed by our leadership group.  Knowing Aaron’s game and talking to Coach Moffat throughout this process, I think Plattsburgh is a good place for Aaron to succeed over the next four years both academically and on the ice”.  The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are members of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) under 5th year Head Coach Steve Moffat.  Coach Moffat and the Cardinals are coming off of a 20-6-2 season, SUNYAC Championship and an NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.   

“First, I would like to thank my parents and family who have supported me throughout my hockey career, I would not be here without them. Next, I would like to thank the Philadelphia Little Flyers and their staff for starting my junior hockey career and giving me a chance to return to where I started in the playoffs during my final year of eligibility. I would also like to thank my teammates, when I arrived late in the season, they made me feel welcomed instantly and created friendships that will last a lifetime. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Moffat and his staff at Plattsburgh for the opportunity to be an NCAA student-athlete for the Cardinals” said Catron last week after making his commitment to the Cardinals. 

After his final year of 18U, Catron was selected by Boston in their Tier II league draft where he remained for two seasons.  During the 2021-22 season he played in 46 games, scoring 7 goals and adding 12 assists.  This past season, he was named captain of the Jr. Bruins, playing in all 50 regular season games with 13 goals and 19 assists.  After Boston narrowly missed their league playoffs, Catron returned to Philadelphia where his junior career started, playing in six games, helping the Little Flyers reach their 4th EHL Frozen Finals appearance in Providence.
