Aston, PA --  The Philadelphia Little Flyers, proud members of the Eastern Hockey League would like to congratulate forward Alex Peterson, on being drafted by the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League.  The Wilderness selected the skilled 1998 birth year forward in the 4th round, 79th overall in the NAHL draft on Tuesday.  Peterson, a 5’10” 180Lb winger from Lansdale, PA was a key playmaker all season for the 2016-17 EHL Regular Season Champion Little Flyers, finishing the regular season with 16 Goals and 22 Assists in 44 games played.  “The Little Flyers are proud and excited for Alex to receive this opportunity. He has worked very hard this year and was a big reason why we had such a great season. The Wilderness, have a great organization with tradition of winning and moving their players on to the NCAA.  It is a great fit for both sides as they get a young man with great character and work ethic, and he gets an opportunity to play for a great organization.  We certainly wish him all the best” said Little Flyers EHL Head Coach and General Manager Rocky Russo.

While Peterson’s regular season numbers were impressive, his post season was nothing short of spectacular.  In the playoffs he led the league in goals with 13, and points with 22 in 12 games.  When the Little Flyers needed a big play in the post season, it was Peterson who provided the spark, scoring four game winners including an overtime power play goal in game one of the EHL Finals.  “It was an incredible experience to play for such a great coach; Rocky Russo and a terrific organization with the Little Flyers.  Our team was a very tight knit group that brought out the best in everyone.  The past year in the EHL provided me many opportunities to develop myself as a player both on and off the ice.  I would like to thank the Little Flyer organization, the Giacobbo's, all of my coaches and teammates for all of their support” said Peterson when asked about his season in the EHL.

Peterson, was one of five EHL players to be selected in the 2017 NAHL Draft, climbing the ladder of development in the ranks of Junior hockey under the USA Hockey umbrella.  The North American Hockey League is the oldest and one of the largest USA Hockey sanctioned junior circuits with 23 teams.  It is one of only two leagues in the United States under USA Hockey that implements the non pay-to-play model.  The NAHL has had more than 1,100 college commitments in the past five seasons with nearly 85 percent of those being NCAA Division 1 commitments.  On behalf of the entire Little Flyers organization we would like to wish Alex the best of luck this summer as he will attend Minnesota’s main camp in August to compete for a roster spot for the 2017-18 season.
