Aston, PA — In their final game of the 2017 calendar year, the Philadelphia Little Flyers EHL Premier team traveled to West Chester,PA for a game against the South Conference leading Jr.Flyers.  The Jr.Flyers led the season series 3-0 heading into Saturday’s match up.

The game’s goaltending match up featured Kolin Grogesky in net for the Little Flyers and AJ Collela for the Jr.Flyers.  The Little Flyers had a tall task ahead of them facing off against the 19-1-3 Jr.Flyers while only having 14 skaters dressed for action.  The Jr.Flyers had the chance to get on the board early as the Little Flyers were shorthanded just 1:49 into the first period but, Grogesky came up big making several saves to keep the game scoreless.  The Little Flyers then found themselves on four power plays throughout the first period but, Collela was up to the challenge keeping the game locked at 0-0 heading into the first intermission.  The Jr.Flyers held a 15-11 shot advantage after twenty minutes of play.

Little Flyers Forward Dylan Frasher, broke the scoreless tie with a power play goal less than five minutes into the second period.  Frasher took a pass from Joe Marcella in the circle and beat Collela high short side, Eric Maard picked up an assist on the play.  Just over three minutes later, the Little Flyers doubled their lead on Kyle Scott’s 30th goal of the season.  Daniel Taylor fed the puck to Scott who snuck behind the Jr.Flyers defense and fired the puck into the back of the net.  With just over five minutes left in the period, the Jr.Flyers got on the board with a Bayley Kubara power play goal to cut the deficit to one.  The Little Flyers answered back when Captain Ryan Sharkey, carried the puck into the Jr.Flyers zone and passed the puck to Joe Marcella who moved right to left in front of the Jr.Flyers net and roofed the puck past Collela.  The Little Flyers offense wasn’t done in the period.  With just fifteen seconds remaining on the clock, Sharkey passed the puck to Scott who danced around a Jr.Flyers defenseman and put a wrist shot into the far side corner of the net to give the Little Flyers a 4-1 leading heading into the third period.  Grogesky, stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced in the second.

On the first shift of the final period, Scott picked the puck off a Jr.Flyers player in the neutral zone and moved towards Collela on a 3-on-1.  Scott, sent a pass cross ice to Patrick Swain who banged the puck home to put the Little Flyers up 5-1 thirty three seconds into the third, Sharkey added his third assist of the day on the play.  Later in the period the Jr. Flyers cut the Little Flyers lead to three with an even strength goal from Charlie Carsello.  In the closing minutes, Scott appeared to have scored his third goal of the game for the hat trick, but the officials held a discussion and determined the Little Flyers were guilty of a boarding major on the play, wiping the goal off the board.  The Jr. Flyers scored a goal on the ensuing five minute power play but it was too little too late as the Little Flyers held on for a 5-3 victory.  Grogesky made 32 saves in the win, improving to 9-5 on the season.  The Little Flyers will be back in action on January 6th as they travel to Central Penn for a game against the Panthers.

Heading into the holiday break, the Little Flyers are currently in third place in the South Conference with a 16-9-1 record.
