ERIC TUFMAN NAMED ECAC EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
 (1/11/2008)

CENTERVILLE, MA - University of Massachusetts Boston men's ice hockey player Eric Tufman (Abington, PA) has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference East Rookie of the Week for the week of November 26 to December 2, it was announced today by the conference. The honor marks the second time in as many weeks that Tufman has earned the award having won it for the week of November 19-25 as well.

The freshman tallied four points on two goals and a pair of assists in three games on the week. Tufman began the week with a power play goal and a pair of assists to contribute on all three of the Beacons' scores in a 3-1 victory at Framingham State College on November 27 and extended his point-streak to four games with his first collegiate game-winning goal on the power play in UMass Boston's 8-4 win at Wesleyan University on November 30.

The forward has been outstanding all season for the Beacons, registering nine points on four goals and five assists in six games to rank second on the team in all three categories, while tying for the UMB lead with a pair of power play goals and a game-winning tally. The Abington Senior High School product ranks eighth among ECAC East leaders in points, 10th in goals and 11th in assists, while placing 12th with four power play points and sixth in power play goals. Tufman is a former member of the Philadelphia Little Flyers of the American Junior Hockey League and stands second among the ECAC East's freshman in points and is tied for fourth among all league players in game-winning scores, while ranking fifth among the nation's rookies with 1.50 points per game. He has registered a pair of multi-point outings on the season, including a season-high four points with two goals and a pair of assists at Southern New Hampshire University on November 24 in the first round of the PAL/Stovepipe Tournament.

UMass Boston is currently 3-4-0 on the season, including 1-3-0 in ECAC East play. The Beacons have won three of their last four games and their overall record is their best after seven games to start the season since they were 3-4-0 in the 1999-2000 season. UMass Boston will be in action again on Wednesday, December 5 when it hosts nationally ranked Babson College in an ECAC East match-up at 7:00 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMB.
