Aston, PA --  The Philadelphia Little Flyers EHL team hit the road for the Eastern Hockey League’s first showcase event of the season this past weekend.  The weekend long event saw all EHL teams in action in a North vs South format.  On Sunday, the Little Flyers played the Valley Jr. Warriors in the final game of Sunday’s action.

With the Little Flyers shorthanded due to a rare Delay of Game call against starting goaltender Adrian Morales, Valley capitalized on the opportunity with a Jack Studley power play goal.  Although the Little Flyers had plenty of scoring chances in the first half of play, Valley maintained a 1-0 lead heading into intermission.

Will Smith tied the game for the Little Flyers with a power play goal of his own, thanks to assists from Ryan Candia and Cam Lindsay.  Lindsay kept a Valley clearing attempt in at the blue line, getting the puck over to Candia who found Smith coming through the slot.  A nifty forehand backhand move netted Smith his 5th goal of the season.  Eight minutes later, Soren Bredeson gave the Little Flyers their first lead of the day.  Carrying the puck through the neutral zone, Bredeson passed the puck up to Smith who tapped the puck back to Bredeson for a rush into the Valley zone.  Bredeson going wide, fired a wrist shot far side and into the back of the net.  With under five minutes to play, Valley answered back, tying the game off of Kari Nordin’s even strength goal.  Just when it looked like the game would head to overtime, a clear out by Valley took a strange hop in the Little Flyers zone right onto the stick of Jr. Warriors forward Just Sullivan who beat Morales for the game winner with just :54 remaining in the game.  Morales, finished the game with 27 saves.

In Monday’s final game of the Showcase, the Little Flyers took on the expansion Worcester Jr. Railers.  Ryan Turse put the Little Flyers on the board early in the first period with a highlight reel goal.  With forward Ryan Candia covering at the point, he passed the puck to Turse rolling off the wall.  Turse cut across the crease and shot the puck back through his legs and into the back of the net.  Midway through the first half, Will Smith increased the Little Flyers lead when Kevin Brown found Smith in the slot for the forwards second goal of the weekend,  Alex McBey also assisted on the play.  While on a five minute power play to close out the first half, Ryan Houle increased the lead to 3-0, sending a wrist shot from the point through traffic to light the lamp.  Houle’s power play goal was assisted by Brett Turner and Will Smith.  In Goal for the Little Flyers, Tommy McLarnon made 13 saves in the first half.

Worcester came out with a jump in their step in the second half, scoring two goals in under a minute to get within one of the Little Flyers.  That’s as close as Worcester would get as Alex McBey sent a pass through the neutral zone to a streaking Kevin Brown who scored all alone on a breakaway to put the Little Flyers back up by two.  The Little Flyers penalty killers turned defense into offense later in the period when an errant Railers pass in the Little Flyers offensive zone, sprung the speedy Tyler Marvil off to the races.  Marvil, moving down the wing slid the puck across the crease to Cam Lindsay for the tap home short handed goal.  McLarnon and the defense handled the rest as the Little Flyers closed the showcase out with a 5-2 win.  McLarnon made 24 saves in the victory.

The Little Flyers are off this weekend and next hit the ice on Monday October 7th at 12:00 PM against cross town rival Philadelphia Jr. Flyers.
