This past Sunday, the U16 girls hit the road to play the U17 York Devils in a double header in their first EJEPL game of the season.  In the first game, our girls controlled the most of the play but had trouble getting shots on goal.  Late in the fist period Eve Hill got the puck from Emma Besa and Alexia Poulin and put it past Devil’s goalie Breanna Cesavice for the only goal of the game.  Little Flyers Goalie Sydney Babin turned away 49 shots on her way to a shut out.  “This was a solid win against a good team” said Coach Keenan.  “Our girls really battled hard for 2 periods and when they kinda hit a wall in the third, Syd really did a great job stopping the puck and controlling the rebounds”.

Game 2 of the double header was another nail bitter.  Five minutes into the first period the Devil’s completed an excellent pass and shot combination that got in behind Little Flyers Goalie Lea Grassia.  The scoring picked up in the second period when Eve Hill got her second goal of the day off assists from Avari Hahn and Emma Besa.  Hill proved she wasn't finished and followed the effort with her third goal of the day again with assists from Alexia Poulin and Emma Besa.  Devils then answered by taking advantage of a power play and putting in their second goal of the day.  The third period started and ended with a 2-2 game.  That point is when the day got serious.  The absolutely exhausted girls from both teams started 4 vs 4 Overtime 1 period.  The crowd was treated to several back and forth exchanges that resulted in nothing other than raising the blood pressure of the fans.  The girls then played 3 vs 3 Overtime 2 period.  This was a new format for many of the skaters on both teams.  Lea stayed strong in net for both OT periods.  Despite battling back the exhaustion that comes from playing a double header, our girls could not get the winning goal and had to settle for the 2-2 tie.

The Player of the Weekend Honor goes to goalie Sydney Babin with Honorable Mention going to Eve Hill for scoring 3 goals in two games.  Sydney turned away 49 shots in the first game (25 of which were in the 3rd period) and helped the team secure the 1-0 victory.
