Candia to Join Owls in Fall 2020

Aston, PA – The Philadelphia Little Flyers, Members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce 1999 birth year forward, Ryan Candia has committed to attend Westfield State University in the Fall of 2020 to continue his education and hockey career.  Candia, a 5’8” 165LB forward from Woolwich, New Jersey is in his second full season with the EHL team.  In his first season, Candia registered 9 goals and 12 assists, playing in 48 total games on the Little Flyers way to a regular season championship and 2nd place finish in the playoffs.  “Ryan really stepped up into a bigger role for us this season, taking on more responsibility not only as a leader but as a playmaker.  There was a stretch of games in November and December where he was one of our best if not our best player on the ice.  We’ve depended on Ryan to play on both the Power Play and Penalty Kill for us this year, a role he didn’t have last season but he’s done it well for us throughout the season.  Everyone here is really proud of Ryan the way he stepped up in his final season of Junior Hockey and we expect him to keep putting in the work to be a difference maker at Westfield State” said Little Flyers EHL Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.

“I am proud to announce that I will continue to pursue my academic and athletic career at Westfield State University. I cannot thank my mother, father, Coach Catron, my teammates, my trainer Trae Toliver, and all of the Little Flyers organization enough for their continued support. Lastly, I want to thank Coach Miele for granting me this opportunity. I am thrilled to become an Owl!” said Candia yesterday upon making his commitment official.

The Westfield State Owls of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MSCAC) are led by 10th year head coach Bob Miele.  Candia’s 2019-20 campaign was an impressive one as he finished the regular season with 16 goals and 20 assists while playing in all 46 regular season games for the Little Flyers, almost doubling his numbers from his rookie season.   On behalf of the entire Little Flyers Organization, we would like to congratulate Ryan and his family on committing to Westfield State and we thank Ryan for everything he has done in representing the Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization.
