Berg Set to Join Thunder in Fall of 2020

Aston, PA -- The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League, are proud to announce Co-Captain Jacob Berg has committed to attend Trine University in the Fall of 2020 to continue his education and hockey career.  Berg, a 5’11” 180lb Forward from Dallas, Texas was a member of the Little Flyers EHL team for two seasons.  In those two seasons, Berg played in 79 total games, scoring 23 goals and adding 35 assists for 58 career points.  “Jake was a good leader for us this season, he always brings that compete level that you want out of your captains.  He started the season in the North American League with the Amarillo Bulls and I think he learned a lot in his time there, when we got Jake back he added a physical presence to our forwards that we needed.  I don’t think I’ve seen a better shot blocker than Jake at the forward position in my years coaching in the EHL.  He is going to bring a lot to the Trine University lineup, knowing how hard Jake works I think he will make an immediate impact at the NCAA level” said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.

“I’m excited to announce my commitment to further my education and to play hockey at Trine University.  Beginning the long list of people I have to thank, I am extremely grateful to coach Todd and coach Kirley who have provided me with this opportunity. I would like to thank all my coaches over the past years, especially Philadelphia Little Flyers Head Coach Mark Catron for helping me get to this point in my career.  I would like to thank my parents for supporting me and helping me with this decision.  And lastly I’d like to thank all the incredible teammates that made the journey to college so great.  It’s been a great ride out in Philly and I’ll miss it, but I’m excited to begin this new chapter in my life” said Berg upon making his College Commitment earlier this week.

The Trine University Thunder, located in Angola, Indiana are an NCAA DIII program led by Head Coach Alex Todd.  The Thunder are members of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.  The Thunder are still a fairly new NCAA hockey program, the 2020-21 season will be the University’s fourth at the NCAA level.  In game two of the Little Flyers first round playoff match-up against Team Maryland this past season, Berg scored the goal that turned the entire series around.  Down 1-0 in the series, and his Little Flyers leading 2-1, minutes after a Team Maryland Power Play Goal, Berg scored a goal late in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into intermission.  The Little Flyers never looked back and won the game 6-1 to tie the series, then closed the series out the next day, winning 6-3.  On behalf of the entire Little Flyers Organization, congratulations to Jacob and his family on committing to Trine University and we thank Jacob for everything he has done in representing the Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization throughout his time here.
