BOX SCORE

The Philadelphia Little Flyers EHL team would be wise to take a page out of Bradley Cooper’s playbook and try to find a silver lining.

Sure, they concluded their four-game road trip to open the 2020-21 season with a 1-3-0 record after being shut out by the New Jersey 87s, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at Revolution Ice Gardens.

But the good news is that they won’t have to wait too long for a shot at revenge. The 87s will be visiting IceWorks Skating Complex in just two days for the Little Flyers’ home opener.

New Jersey has had Philadelphia’s number in the early going, especially 87s forwards Nick Swain, Kei Yasuda and Jon Gabriel. The trio has combined for four goals and 11 assists in two contests against the Little Flyers thus far.

Ten of those points (3G, 7A) came against Tyler Cassidy, who made his first start for PLF on Friday. Cassidy was under siege most of the day and finished with 33 saves on 37 shots. Jon Kopack was a perfect 25 of 25 for the 87s to pick up his first shutout of 2020-21.

Swain opened the scoring in the first period at 8:50. Gabriel and Yasuda picked up the assists.

It was Yasuda who then gave the 87s a 2-0 lead in the second frame, with Gabriel picking up another primary helper and Swain earning a secondary.

George Weiner scored a power-play goal for New Jersey from Swain and Yasuda at 8:15 in the third period. Swain put the game out of reach at 4-0 with his second score of the day at 15:26. Yasuda and Cal Couell were credited with assists on the final tally of the afternoon.
