Bellan Scores Shootout Game Winner

The 10U A team faced the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the MAWHA Invitational Championship Sunday afternoon at Hatfield Ice. This was a rematch from Saturday's game, win which the Phantoms bested the Little Flyers with a 5-1 win.

The game started almost identically to Saturday's contest, with the Phantoms starting the scoring less than two minutes into the game, but the Little Flyer's Ava Razzano (and her stick, named "Dude") answered back less than two minutes later, assisted by Kalyn Taylor. The Flyers ended the period up 2-1, with a goal from Alana Bellan, and strong defense from Eva Lebel.

The back and forth went on throughout the second period, with the Flyers going into the third period with a 4-3 lead, thanks to Razanno and Dude getting two more for the hat trick, Taylor once again assisting on one of the two. Tired legs led to a late third period goal from the hard fighting Phantoms, evening up the contest with 1:13 remaining, and regulation play ended with the same score.

Nail biting and increased heart rates started during the five minute 4v4, in which strong performances were had by Isabella Goudy, Sonja Beaman, Kylie Wilcox and Kayla McGarvey, but nothing changed on the scoreboard to reach a decision, bringing the teams to a shootout. Thanks to strong goaltending by Carly Clevens, who fortunately is known for having ice running through her veins, the first round of shootouts ended in a tie, making it a sudden death situation. Elizabeth Coen, Olivia Friedberg and Alana Bellan all had goals in the shootouts, and ultimately a stop by Clevens followed up with Bellan's last shot finding the back of the net sealed the deal for the Little Flyers, bringing the banner to Aston!

Congratulations on all of the hard work ladies, you earned this one!
