Turner set to join Ice Raiders this fall

Aston, Pa --  The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce Brett Turner’s commitment to further his education and hockey career at Rivier University.  Turner, a 6’2” 165LB 2000 birth-year defenseman from West Chester, PA just completed his 4th season with the Little Flyers, two at the EHL Premier division and two at the EHL level.  “As an organization we couldn’t be happier for Brett and his family on his college commitment to Rivier University.  I had the privilege of coaching Brett for four seasons, he always came ready to work and gave everything he had to this team and organization.  When we started the Premier team four years ago, Brett was one of the cornerstones of getting that program off the ground at a high level, the caliber of player he is automatically made us a contender.  Brett continued to work hard and dedicate himself to one day being an NCAA student athlete and he achieved that today with his commitment, Rivier is getting a smart hockey player both on and off the ice that can help the program establish themselves as NCAA competitors.  I’m excited to see Brett compete and play at the NCAA level this fall” said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron when asked about Turner.  In two seasons at the EHL Premier level, Turner played in 87 total games, scoring 19 goals and handing out 34 assists.  Turner was a key contributor in the EHL Premier’s 2018-19 playoff run that ended with a close Championship Finals loss at Providence College.

“First and foremost, I would like to thank my family for all of their support during these past four years. Without them, my dream of playing college hockey could not be possible. I am incredibly grateful for Coach Catron, Anthony Lorusso, my teammates and the entire Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization for all of their guidance, dedication, and support. I can’t thank them enough for such an amazing junior hockey experience. In addition, I want to thank all of my former coaches for their help during my hockey career. I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity that Coach Sorenson and his staff have given me. During my time as a Little Flyer, I helped to build a new EHL Premier program before spending three seasons in the EHL. I’m looking forward to the same opportunity at Rivier University and can’t wait to join Riv Nation next fall!” said Turner upon making his college commitment official this past weekend.

As a staple on the EHL blue line the past two seasons, Turner played in 97 career EHL games over the course of two full seasons and spot call up duty during his last season in the Premier League.  In those 97 games, the Little Flyers D-man scored 12 goals and registered 28 assists.  In four seasons, Turner was an iron man for the Little Flyers, playing in all but two games throughout his Junior Hockey Career.  Rivier Univeristy will begin their innagural season at the NCAA Division III level in the Fall of 2021 under Head Coach Eric Sorenson.  The Rivier Univeristy Ice Raiders are located in Nashua, New Hampshire and will compete as an Independent in their first season at the NCAA level.

On behalf of the entire Little Flyers Organization, we’d like to congratulate Brett and his family on Brett’s college commitment and thank Brett for his contributions as a Little Flyer both on and off the ice.
