16AA improves to 4-0 in MAWHA play

Aston Pa – It was a busy weekend for the Little Flyers Girls Hockey Club.  Catch up on all the action below.

U10 AA:  U10AA win in their first official MAWHA game against Princeton 8-1!

Goals scored by Lena Tiernan (5), M.Fauver (2) and Claire Coleman. Strong efforts by Haili Witkop, K.Eberhart and Iris Gustkey (2 assists) to help keep the offensive pressure on the Tiger Lillies the entire game.  Defensively, the blue liners limited the Princeton team to very few chances.

U10 A: U10A Little Flyers took on Snider Hockey Saturday morning in non league play for a dominating team win!

The Flyer girls jumped on the scoreboard with goals from Grace Bryan, Madalyn Houck, Adelin Childs each registered a goal along with E.Zigon and Makayla O’Neill both scoring their first goals of the season! Nora Barmann would add two goals for herself and Kylie Wilcox put up a hat trick!

Hadley Day posted her second shutout of the season in net, pushing the team to three consecutive shutout wins!

The U10A girls played a great team game - with tons of passing and every player on the team contributing. The girls continue to improve every time they step on the ice and it’s been amazing to watch the team’s development in such a short time. Great teamwork and heart from this group!

U14AA Premier:  GAME1: The U14AA Premier team traveled up to play the Tier 1 NJ Titans on Friday night. Alyssa Viola got the Little Flyers team on the board driving the net hard off of a T.Dunckel shot from the point in the second period. The third period showcased an aggressive forecheck from the Little Flyers with some highlight reel playmaking. Playmaker Gabriela Zangari passed the puck up to the point for another Dunckel shot on net where Lily Flynn, in her first game at forward for the team, scored on the rebound to go up 2-0 (and scored her first Little Flyers goal). A few minutes later, Maggie Donnelly would rush the puck out of the defensive zone and make a great stretch pass to Angela Bruno for a tremendous goal to secure the game. Kelly Stevens earned MVP honors in net for a much deserved shutout - Kelly backstopped the girls with impressive saves when the team was shorthanded as well as coming up with a big breakaway save in the third period to keep the game out of the Titans reach.

GAME 2: U14AA Premier with a big 3-2 MAWHA win vs the NJ Bandits!  The forward lines of the U14AA Premier came out with intensity to outshoot the Bandits 10-2 in the first period, however, the Bandits took advantage of an opportunity to get on the board first.

The Little Flyers continued to dominate the play into the second period to get on the board twice from a Jayne Gamburg rush up the ice assisted by Gabriela Zangari, as well as an aggressive net drive from Madelyn Yost assisted by Angela Bruno and Maggie Donnelly. Despite overall dominating puck possession, the aggressive effort by the Little Flyers put the team in the penalty box seven times for the game - which the team managed to kill off every time thanks to key saves from Kelly Stevens in net.

Energy was high on the bench going into the third period as the team continued to kill off penalties. Gamburg would seal the win with a snipe just inside the post on a rush up the ice.

Angela Bruno earned MVP honors for her efforts in all three zones as well as one of the best shifts of the game during a 5 on 3 penalty kill as the lone forward.

Game 3:  U14AA Premier make a third period comeback to force an OT tie against the JR Flyers in league action! In the team's third game of the weekend, the Little Flyers aimed to continue their win streak. Goaltender Ava Re played strong in net stopping 10 of 11 shots in the first period and 7 out of 8 in the second period. Re would go on to keep the Jr Flyers of the scoreboard for the entire third period and overtime (for a total of 17 saves in the two periods combined).

Though the Jr Flyers took a 2-0 lead after two periods, the Little Flyers stepped up and battled back thanks to an Alyssa Viola goal (assisted by Madelyn Yost) and a Jayne Gamburg goal. The third period ended with a roughing penalty right at the last second to cause the team to go shorthanded in OT - but the strong shorthanded play and great goaltending by the Little Flyers kept the Jr Flyers off the board while still managing to get a few quality chances offensively. With neither team managing to score in the five minute overtime, the game ended in the 2-2 tie. Viola took home the team's MVP honors for her strong play shorthanded, offensive opportunities and her supportive voice on the ice.

U14 AA ELITE:  The Philadelphia Little Flyers Girls 14UAA Elite improved to a record of 2-2 in MAWHA league play today, with a win this morning over the NJ Bandits 14UAA, by a score of 4-3.

The first period was largely uneventful until the Bandits slipped a shot past Flyer's net minder S.White at 6:34. Answering back with 0:09 remaining in the period, left wing Eavan Connelly rocked home a shot on an assist from right wing Sabrina Bellwoar, tying the contest. The second period was mostly quiet as well, until the 2:14 mark, when center Allyson Dembzynski scored on an assist from right wing Ava Goeller. The Flyers Girls got right to work in the third period, with Dembzynski again finding the back of the net on an assist from left wing Abby Dorman. The Flyers final tally of the contest came at the 8:58 mark with Dembzynski again sending the puck home. With time ticking away and a growing sense of urgency, the Bandits pulled their goalie at the 2:00 mark, opting for the additional attacker. The gambit paid off, with the Bandits scoring at 1:28. Sticking with the extra attacker right from the face-off, the Bandits were credited with a questionable third goal, scoring just after the buzzer sounded, the game ending 4-3 in favor of the Flyers and giving them a coveted three points in the standings.

The 14UAA Elite Little Flyers Girls were not done for the day, though. The girls headed up the road to West Chester, where they faced off at 2:30 pm against the 16U Philadelphia Jr. Flyers Girls. Net minding duties for the afternoon tilt was assigned to Little Flyer Saige Bowers. The girls turned in a 5-3 victory in this non-league contest. Goals in this game were recorded by Abby Dorman (1), Sabrina Bellwoar (1) and Ally Dembzynski (3). Assists were turned in during this match up by CeCe DeNucci (1), Katie Graf (1) and Annie Schofield (2).

The 14UAA Elite girls return to work next weekend, with non league games scheduled for Friday and Sunday evenings and a MAWHA match on Saturday evening at 7:45 pm at home against the Piedmont Predators 14UAA.

U16 AA Premier (Black):  U16AA Premier (Black) shutout the Jr Flyers in MAWHA to go 4-0 in league play!

Little Flyers goaltender Alex Erdman shutdown the Jr Flyers in the first period to keep a scoreless game in the team's first matchup of the season, turning away all 8 shots on net. Erdman continued to be a wall against the Jr Flyers registering 24 total saves for the game.

In the second period, Annie Dignazio used her speed to cut through a defender for a mini breakaway to take the 1-0 lead. The Flyers continued to put on offensive pressure outshooting the Jr Flyers - and on an offensive zone faceoff won by Kayla D'Eletto would see Mollie Murphy pick up a loose puck, curl around the zone and rip home the second goal of the game.

The Flyers continued their goal scoring streak after Dignazio stole a puck in the offensive zone to step in and make a great backdoor pass to Katie Smiley to go up 3-0. Shortly after, Murphy would handle around two Jr Flyers with the puck to score her second goal of the game and the final goal for the Little Flyers.

The Little Flyers girls look to keep the streak alive in their upcoming road trip against Tri City Eagles and Princeton Tigerlillies.

U19AA:  U19AA earn a shutout in their first official MAWHA game of the season!

The U19 girls took to the road to start off the 2021-22 MAWHA season.  Saturday, the team took the long trip up to Long Island to take on the Islanders Elite team.  They controlled much of the game play and Avari Hahn got the puck from Evelyn Pryadkin (AKA Russia) and scored the first league goal of the season for our U19 Little Flyers in the first period.  Later in the first our girls got in some trouble and somehow managed to leave tender Sydney Babin alone facing three Islanders on her crease.  She was more than up to the challenge and not only turned away three shots she got the puck to a charging Kaila Booth who took the puck coast to coast and stuffed in the 2nd goal of the game.  Our girls continued direct the play and then halfway through the third period Jenna Calchi got the puck to Russia for her first goal and the final score of 3-0.

Our girls stay up north to face the NJ Titans early Sunday morning.  Little Flyers dominated the Titans all 3 periods of the game.  The girls focused on cycling the puck throughout the game and lots of players managed to get on the scoresheet.  Even the referee’s helped get the girls ink on the scoresheet by consistently keeping one of them in the penalty box.  Net minder Lucy Fassler played a solid game and only let 1 goal during one of the penalty kills.  Goals were recorded for Jenna Calchi (2), Evelyn Hill (1), Evelyn Pryadkin(2), Samantha Roberts(1), Kaila Booth(1), and Maggie Danchak(1).  Assists were recorded for Lexi Poulan(1), Kaila Booth(2), Avari Hahn(1), Jenna Calchi(3), Evelyn Pryadkin(2), and Evelyn Hill(2).  The Little Flyers bring home six points in the MAWHA standings, going 2-0 on the road trip with wins of 3-0 and 8-1 respectively.
