St. Louis Native joins Golden Wolves

Aston, PA – The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce forward Tony Andrews’ NCAA College commitment to further his education and hockey career at Alvernia University.  Andrews, a 5’10” 185lb forward from St. Louis, Missouri played one season for the Little Flyers in the EHL.  In 48 total games in the Black and Orange, Andrews scored 20 goals and added 17 assists for 37 points.  “Our staff is very happy for Tony and his family on his commitment to attend Alvernia University said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.  He continued “Tony is one of those guys that brings difference maker energy to the game, he’s skilled but never shies away from contact and the physical aspect of the game.  He has a great work ethic, was always in the gym even on our off days to make sure he was ready to go for our team.  We’ll get to see him play college hockey in our building when Alvernia plays here against Neumann which is always exciting to see players you coached throughout the years play at the NCAA level in person.” When the Alvernia University Golden Wolves hit the ice in the Fall for their Inaugural season at the NCAA DIII level, they will be led by a familiar face to the Philadelphia Little Flyers program in Head Coach Andrew Burke.  Burke, played Juniors for the Little Flyers from 2006-2008 before a successful four years at UMass-Boston.  Joining Burke on his Coaching Staff is Little Flyers Alum Eric Higgins, who played for the EHL Little Flyers in 2017-18.

“I am proud to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Alvernia University.  It has always been a dream of mine to play hockey at the NCAA level. I would like to thank all of my former teammates and coaches for helping develop me into the player and man I am today. I would also like to thank my advisor for all of the work he has put into me, and most of all I would like to thank my family. They have been by my side every step of the way and helped motivate me through my ups and downs as a player. Lastly, I would like to say thank you to Coach Burke for giving me a home for the next four years with Alvernia University. Go Golden Wolves!” said Andrews upon making his commitment late last week.

Andrews was 7th on the Little Flyers in scoring with 37 points and 6th in goals with 20 on the EHL’s highest scoring offense this past season.  He registered five multi-goal games throughout the season, including a huge two goal performance in a 3-1 victory at the Worcester Showcase in October against the Top Ranked Boston Junior Rangers at the time.  In the Little Flyers playoff run to the Frozen Finals, Andrews got the Little Flyers off to a good start in game one of the first round against Maryland, scoring a pair of goals to lead the team to a win in the first round series sweep.

On behalf of the entire Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization, we would like to congratulate Tony and his family on Tony’s NCAA College commitment to Alvernia University and thank him for his outstanding leadership and contributions both on and off of the ice to the Philadelphia Little Flyers Organization.
