Veteran Defenseman will lead Little Flyers into next season

Aston, PA – The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) are proud to announce Shane Green as the Captain of the 2022-23 EHL team.  Green, a 2002 birthyear defenseman from Bear, Delaware will enter his 6th season with the Little Flyers organization.  After one year at the 16U youth level with the Orange and Black, Green was a two-year player for the EHL Premier team where he was a Mid-Atlantic First Team All-Star in 2019-20.  During the 2018-19 season in their second year of existence, Green helped to get the Little Flyers all the way to Providence for the EHL Premier Frozen Finals.

“Shane has all of the qualities you look for in a leader at the junior level” said Little Flyers EHL Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron earlier today.  He continued “Whether it be during practice, games or in the weight room, you know that Shane Green is going to give you 150% and that’s what you want out of your group.  He is a smart young man with a 4.0 GPA, has a high Hockey IQ, and brings our lineup much needed physicality especially playing in the South division.  At the end of the day, Shane is a lead by example guy, we’re all very excited for him to lead this team into the 2022-23 season.

His development at the EHL Premier level catapulted him to becoming a regular in the EHL lineup during the 2020-21 season, using his 5’11” 210LB frame to bring physicality to the Little Flyers blue line.  Playing in 92 career EHL games thus far, Green has scored 7 goals and added 14 assists.  Two of his goals this season were game winners, including a February 22nd overtime goal against the Protec Ducks in the thick of the Little Flyers pursuit of the South Division crown.  “It is a great honor to be named the Captain of the Philadelphia Little Flyers EHL team.  I’d like to thank Coach Catron and Anthony Lorusso for the opportunity to be the captain of this team for the 2022-23 season” said Green earlier today upon being named Captain.  He continued “After six years in the Little Flyers organization, it means a lot to spend my final season as the captain.  I’m very excited to get to work and start competing with a new group of guys this year to make another run towards a Championship in Providence.”

Green was a staple on the Little Flyers blue line last season, playing in 45 of 46 regular season games.  The Little Flyers penalty kill unit went down as the second best in league history this past season, operating at 91.5%.  Green and his Little Flyers open the 2022-23 Eastern Hockey Regular season on Friday September 16th as the Little Flyers look to return to the EHL Frozen Finals.
