Each week, Discover will feature a different youth coach as part of its Exceptional Community Coaches series. In continued support of local hockey communities, Discover is making a $2,000 donation to each of the Learn to Play programs this season. This week, a look at Philadelphia Flyers representative Pat Conway of the Flyers Rookie program.

Name of coach: Pat Conway

Name of program: Flyers Rookie Program at IceWorks Skating Complex

About the coach: Conway has been coaching at IceWorks for 12 years, with various programs including the Philadelphia Little Flyers, Delco Phantoms, Delco Dragons, Garnet Valley (elementary, middle and high school teams), Learn to Play and Adult Learn to Play. He has dedicated hundreds of hours to growing the game of hockey at all age and skill levels. He is also the head coach of Garnet Valley High School's varsity hockey team. His son and daughter have grown up playing hockey through the various IceWorks programs.

About the program: IceWorks Learn to Play program has seen significant growth since the partnership with the Flyers Learn to Play Rookie Program, especially in the number of young female players being introduced to the great game of hockey. It's had great success in enrolling these Learn To Play participants into the programs such as the Delco Dragons, Delco Phantoms and Philadelphia Little Flyers. On Saturday mornings, members of our Little Flyers EHL junior hockey team join coach Conway on the ice to assist with instruction.

Donation meaning: The donation from Discover would allow the program to continue to grow the product of the on-ice Learn to Play program with training equipment and resources to help each individual player develop.
