Aston, PA -- The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce the college commitment of Captain Shane Green to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts to further his education and hockey career this fall.  Green, a 5’11” 201LB Defenseman from Bear, Delaware played five total seasons of Junior Hockey for the Little Flyers and several years of youth hockey at the Bantam and Midget levels.  In two seasons at the EHL Premier level, Green was a part of a tough defensive core that led the Little Flyers to the Frozen Finals Championship at Providence College.  In 83 career EHL Premier games, Green scored 16 goals and added 35 assists for 51 points, he was also named EHL Premier Mid-Atlantic First Team All-Conference in 2019-20.  “I could talk about Shane all day long and what he means to this program and the Little Flyers logo.  He is a leader and captain in every sense of the word, the guy you want to go to battle with on your side and a guy you hate to battle against.  He isn’t the type of young man who will be outworked by many, in the weight room or on the ice” said Little Flyers EHL Head Coach and General Manager Mark Catron.  He continued “Shane is probably the most physically dominant defenseman in the EHL over the past 10 seasons, but he always played the game the right way, never took liberties on opponents just played a mean physical style of play that is well respected throughout the league.  We’re all going to miss having Shane as a Little Flyer, he’s been a constant in this organization for a long time.  Coach Ketts and the MCLA program are getting an intense competitor that wants to become better each day, I think he’ll be a leader in that locker room from day one” Catron Concluded.  The Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, located in North Adams, MA will return to the NCAA ranks this fall for the first time since the 2002-03 season.  The Trailblazers will be led by first year Head Coach Jeremiah Ketts who was previously on the staff of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. 

“First, I want thank God for all the things He’s done for me in my life and looking over me.  Secondly, I would like to thank my parents for always being there for me and all the sacrifices they have made for me to play this sport and getting me to where I am today.  Next, I want to thank all of my teammates, Coach Catron, Coach Stephane, and Anthony Lorusso for all the memories and everything they have done for me the past six years. And finally, thank you to Coach Ketts and MCLA for giving me the opportunity to play NCAA college hockey and taking me into the next chapter of my life” said Green last week. 

At the EHL level, Green played in 146 career games, scoring 11 goals and adding 34 assists to go along with back-to-back trips to the EHL’s Frozen Finals from 2021-2023.  Shane was also named an EHL All-Star this past season, representing the EHL against NCAA opponents Nazareth College and SUNY Brockport.  For all the big games Shane played as a Little Flyer, none might be bigger than his two-power play goal performance against Team Maryland in the deciding Game 3 of the 2023 EHL South Division Finals with a trip to the Frozen Finals on the line.  “To me, that game is the perfect snapshot of Shane’s career as a Little Flyer.  In a win or go home situation, playing in a rink he has called home for 8-10 years for the last time regardless of the outcome with a trip to the finals on the line.  Add in the 450 people in the stands, college scouts and what does he do? He puts his team on his back scoring those two power play goals and dominates the game physically from start to finish.  It was the perfect way for Shane Green to play his last home game at IceWorks as the Captain of the Little Flyers” said Little Flyers Junior Hockey President Anthony Lorusso.
