The Philadelphia Little Flyers were back in action on Sunday, this time, against the New York Applecore, at Brewsters’ Ice Arena.  The Little Flyers take a 3 game win streak into this game, riding on the back of, netminder, Alec Derks who is making back to back starts.

The Little Flyers tested opposing goaltender, Blake Wojtala, early with 13 shots in the first period.  Despite a barrage of chances, no goals were scored on either side, and the game remained that way until the second period.

New York defenseman, Mike Rodriguez snuck one past Derks, to put the Applecore up, 1-0 in the 2nd period.  The score stayed that way going into the second intermission, leaving Philadelphia and uphill battle in the third.

Oleg Potemkin capitalized on a powerplay opportunity to tie the game in the third period. Jesse MacIntyre and Troy Grahl had the assists on the goal, which would be the catalyst for sending this game to overtime.

The overtime period didn’t last two minutes before Cale Schoenberg emerged as the hero for his team, scoring the game winning goal, and clinching the victory for his team.

After this victory the New York Applecore improve their record to 7-8 on the season and the Little Flyers fall to 7-4-1-1.
