2000 Bantam Minors Wins AYHL Championship

The Bantam Minor 2000 team traveled to Hackensack on Friday to start the AYHL Playoffs. Their first game was against the First Place Long Island Royals the Little Flyers jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Royals answered back with 2 goals to close the gap to 4-2, the Little Flyers held on for a 5-4 win.

In the second game of the day the Little Flyers took on their rival Team Comcast the game went back and forth before Team Comcast scored an empty net goal to seal the win 5-3 over the Little Flyers.

On Saturday the Little Flyers played the North Jersey Avalanche to a 4-4 tie and advance to the semi-final game against the Long Island Royals on Sunday.

The Semi-Final Game the Little Flyers came out flying opened up a 3-0 lead after the first period and never looked back and won 9-0 on their way to the Finals.

The Finals was a rematch against Team Comcast the teams played a scoreless first period. Kyle Knight broke the scoreless tie with an assist from Matt Cameron. Matt Cameron scored his first of two goals with assists from Kyle Knight and Greg Japchen to give the Little Flyers and 2-0 lead. Matt Cameron scored his second goal of the game 2 minutes later with an assist from David Mester. The second period ended with the Little Flyers leading 3-0. Team Comcast scored a late goal in the third but Brandon Popiolek added an empty net goal to seal the CHAMPIONSHIP and 4-1 victory. Andrew Kelly stopped 17 of 18 shots he faced to help lead the team to victory.

Congrats to Jared Hannah, Kyle Knight, Matt Magee, Andrew Kelly, Greg Japchen, Marcus Cook, Michael Giampapa, Justin Boornazian, Matt Cameron, David Mester, Brandon Popiolek, Ivan Sidoriak, Christian Duvall, Dominic Guido, Liam McCanney, Bryson Desrosiers and Coach Dave Dorman on a job well done.
