The Little Flyers had a busy weekend, playing 3 games in 3 nights, including road games against the New Jersey Titans on Friday and the New Jersey Rockets on Saturday. The weekend concluded with the back half of the home and home set with the Rockets.

Friday night was a slow start for the Little Flyers as they dominated the play but were not able to capitalize. Little Flyers Captain Zach Felser struck first on a great pass from John Nugent to make it 1-0. The Titans were able to tie the game at 1 and that’s how it stood at the end of the 1st. The Little Flyers dominated the 2nd period by outshooting the Titans 17-4 and managed to find themselves down 2-1 after 2. With just less than 7 minutes remaining in the game Austin Kelly capitalized on a Titan turnover and found the back of the net to tie the game at 2. It would stay that way until the buzzer sounded and overtime was needed. With the Little Flyers started the OT period on the powerplay it took only :24 seconds before Gabe Chuckran scored his first goal of the game and ended the upset bid for the Titans. Cam Berry and Drew Gannon assisted on the game winner. Trevor Micucci got the win after replacing Greg Procopio midway through the 2nd.  “We did not have our best effort this evening” Said Head Coach Rocky Russo. “We have to do a better job of sticking to our systems and playing at a consistently high level.”

Saturday night the Little Flyers traveled to face the New Jersey Rockets in the front end of the home and home series. The Rockets jumped out fast and controlled the game for the 1st five minutes. The Little Flyers managed to shake off the bus legs and quickly take the momentum back. It took 23 shots on net in the 1st to finally solve the Rockets goaltender as Zach Felser scored his 2nd of the weekend on the powerplay, with yet another assist from John Nugent.

The 2nd period was more of the same as the Little Flyers outshot the Rockets 17-2 and notched 2 more powerplay goals. This time off the sticks of Gabe Chuckran and Drew Gannon. Garrett Gallagher and Gannon assisted on the 1st goal, with Chuckran and Kyle Martin earned the helpers on the Gannon goal. In the 3rd Felser notched his 2nd goal of the game and 3rd of the weekend on assists from Hector Majul and Chuckran.  Drew Gannon notched his 2nd goal of the game to make the final 5-0.Trevor Micucci registered his 2nd win in as many nights as well as his first Junior Hockey Shutout by stopping all 24 shots that he faced. “Tonight was a much better effort by our young men but we still have yet to compete for 60 minutes.” Russo Said. “Tomorrow it is important that we play hard for 60 minutes and let the score take care of itself.”

On Sunday the Little Flyers kept the scoring going as they ran away with a big 10-1 victory. Greg Procopio got the win stopping 18 of 19 shots. He also registered his first assist of the season on Garrett Gallaghers 3rd period powerplay goal. Blake Delisle, Phil Zbell, and Drew Gannon all registered 2 goals while Colin Woods, Cam Berry, Gordie Helmuth and Garrett Gallagher all chipped in with 1. Berry also had 4 assists to go along with his goal for a 5 point night. Coach Russo said that “Today was the 1st time all season we have played a full 60 minutes and the score reflects that.” “I am proud of the boys for sticking to our game plan and playing a disciplined game.”

The Little Flyers hit the ice at home again this coming weekend with 3 big games. Friday night at 7:00pm vs the Connecticut Oilers, Saturday at 6:00pm vs the East Coast Wizards and Sunday at 2:00pm vs the New Jersey Titans.
