14 goals for and 3 straight shutouts propel Little Flyers to top of EHL

This past weekend The Little Flyers traveled to Manchester, NH for the EHL Veterans Day showcase. Faced with the task of 3 games over 3 days with an injury depleted roster The Little Flyers were very much up to the challenge. The weekend began with a low scoring affair as the Little Flyers claimed a 1-0 victory over the Boston Jr Rangers. Oleg Potemkin blocked a shot off a lost defensive zone faceoff and picked up the loose puck in the process. Tyler Pietrowski drove the net and Potemkin made a great pass to him for the only goal of the game. The Little Flyers outshot the Jr Rangers 39-12. Greg Procopio registered his 1st shutout of the year in the process.

Sunday was a rematch with the East Coast Wizards. The Little Flyers were able to knock them off 4-1 just over 2 weeks ago and as the game began it seemed as if the Wizards were out for revenge. The Little Flyers were able to weather the initial push by the Wizards and in just a short time took complete control of the game. Jesse Macintyre scored the 1st goal of the game on a great 2 on 1 backdoor pass from Cam Berry. Jacob Paluch also assisted on the goal. Oleg Potemkin got on the board a few minutes later on assists from Paluch and John Nugent. Before the Wizards knew it the route was on. The Little Flyers kept the defense stingy and the offense going strong as they poured it on. Goals from Phil Zbell (2), Pietrowski, Drew Gannon (PP), Austin Kelly, Gabe Chuckran (PP), and Nugent (PP) highlighted an amazing offensive outburst that finished with a 9-0 victory. Cam Berry registered 5 assists and Nugent chipped in 3 assists to go with his goal to pace the offense. Trevor Micucci carried the shutout streak to 2 games stopping all 23 shots that he faced.

Monday the Little Flyers were faced with the task of trying to complete the 1st ever 3 game EHL Showcase sweep for the organization. The New England Wolves had other plans as they entered the game with the idea of knocking off the Little Flyers. The Wolves played a chippy, physical game in their defensive zone. And a passive neutral zone trap in an attempt to slow down the high flying offense of the Little Flyers. Their strategy worked for the 1st 15 minutes, keeping the game scoreless until Oleg Potemkin was able to score the 1st goal of the game. Nugent and Pietrowski earned assists on the play. Less than 2 minutes later Potemkin struck again to extend the lead to 2-0. This time Nugent and Garrett Gallagher were credited with assists. Gabe Chuckran put the Little Flyers up 3-0 on a blast from the point. Jesse Macintyre and Drew Gannon assisted on the goal. Nugent then finished the scoring by burying a back door goal. Potemkin and Pietrowski got assists on the goal. Greg Procopio stopped all 30 shots he faced to earn his 2nd shutout of the weekend.
