99 Shots on Net in 2 games for the Little Flyers

The Little Flyers took to the ice for 2 big home games this weekend, facing off against two tough opponents from the EHL Boston Division. Saturday’s opponent was the Boston Bandits, a tough team that sat in 2nd place in their division. The Little Flyers entered the game with a 15-1-2 record and sitting comfortably in 1st place in the EHL South Division. The Little Flyers applied offensive pressure for most of the 1st period, registering 18 shots on goal to only 5 for the Bandits, yet found themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 deficit at the end of the 1st. The 2nd Period was much of the same as the Little Flyers continued to pepper the Bandit goalie with shots but could not find the back of the net. Just 4 minutes into the 2nd the Bandits managed to score another goal to take a 2-0 lead. The Little Flyers were diligent in their efforts offensively and finally the effort paid off. Cody Slocum received a Neutral Zone pass and moved his feet up the ice passing the puck to John Nugent. Nugent drove hard past the D and the pulled up to create space, as he did Troy Grahl entered the zone and received the pass and one timed it into the net to get the Little Flyers on the board. The score remained that way until the 6:24 mark of the 3rd period. With an offensive zone faceoff Austin Kelly won the draw back clean to Jesse Macintyre. Macintyre spotted Garrett Gallagher streaking to the back post and made a great area pass to Gallagher, who snapped the puck over the goaltenders glove to tie the game at 2. Just 4 minutes later Drew Gannon accepted a pass from Tyler Pietrowski and one timed it into the net to give the Little Flyers their first lead of the game. Chris Best also registered an assist on the play. The Little Flyer defense stood tall for the remainder of the game to claim the 3-2 victory. The Little Flyers outshot the Bandits 50-17 in the win. Greg Procopio registered his 8th Win of the year.

Sunday the Little Flyers took on another Boston opponent in the Valley Jr Warriors. The beginning of the game on Sunday was remarkable similar to Saturday as it appeared as the Little Flyers had run into yet another hot goaltender. The Little Flyers outshot the Jr Warriors 16-7 in the 1st period and once again found themselves down 1-0 heading into intermission. The Little Flyers finally managed to get on the board in the 2nd period as Garrett Gallagher poked in a loose puck on the Powerplay. Cam Berry and Troy Grahl registered assists. The Little Flyers struck again on the powerplay midway through the 2nd period as John Nugent one timed a pass from Jesse Macintyre into the net to take a 2-1 lead. Oleg Potemkin was also credited with an assist. Troy Grahl extended the lead with a shorthanded empty net goal to seal the win for the Little Flyers. Trevor Micucci registered his 9th win of the season stopping 23 of the 24 shots that he faced.

The Little Flyers improved their record to 17-1-2, good for first overall in the EHL. They will have a week off for the Thanksgiving holiday before traveling to New Hampshire the 1st weekend in December to face the New Hampshire Monarchs, the New England Wolves and the Northern Cyclones.
