Little Flyers Win 2 Over the Weekend

Little Flyers Maintain Cushion in South Division with 2 Big Wins

The Little Flyers had two important division games this past weekend, starting with a visit from the New Jersey Rockets on Saturday night. The Little Flyers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Cameron Berry drove around the defenseman and buried the puck for a quick 1-0 lead. Pavel Mikhasenok and Jake Paluch registered assists on the goal.  The Little Flyers carried the pace of play for the period and managed to get on the board again at the 14:32 mark of the 1st. Gabe Chuckran handled a pass from Drew Gannon and moved his feet along the blue line to find a shooting lane before firing the puck past the goalie for a 2-0 lead. The Little Flyers outshot the Rockets 25-12 in the period. The 2nd period was scoreless until the Rockets were able to find the back of the net on the Powerplay to cut the Little Flyer lead to 2-1. The 3rd period was all Little Flyers as they fired 27 shots more on the net and managed to score two more goals. Gabe Chuckran scored his 2nd of the game on assists from Cody Slocum and Colin Woods just 3 minutes into the game and Cam Berry registered his 2nd of the game, this time on the powerplay, to make the score 4-1. John Nugent and Troy Grahl were credited with assists on the powerplay goal. Trevor Micucci stopped 27 of 28 shots to earn his 11th win of the season.

 

Sunday the Little Flyers traveled across town to face off against the Division Rival Jr Flyers. The Little Flyers once again wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Brien Caseria received a pass from Cam Berry and fired it at the net, the goaltender made the original save but Austin Kelly was on the doorstep to pick up the rebound and give the Little Flyers an early 1-0 lead. Hector Majul extended the lead at the 13:56 mark with a great second effort as he took a pass from John Nugent and fired it at the goalie, as the save was made Majul was waiting to sweep the rebound into the net and make the score 2-0. Garrett Gallagher also was credited with an assist on the play. Again like Saturdays game the Little Flyers 2-0 lead was cut in half early in the period as the Jr Flyers capitalized on a turnover and fired the puck over the Glove of Little Flyer Goaltender Greg Procopio. The difference from Saturday is the Little Flyers rebounded quickly from the goal against and managed to pot 3 of their own to extend the lead to 5-1. Caseria scored his 2nd of the season at the 14 min mark on assists from Slocum and Majul. Less than a minute later Phil Zbell scored on assists from Jesse Macintyre and Chuckran to make it 4-1 and again in just over a minute this time Majul scored on assists from Oleg Potemkin and Gabe Chuckran to make it 5-1. The Jr Flyers scored with less than a minute remaining in the period to make the score 5-2 heading into the 3rd. The Little Flyers tacked on a goal from Slocum and another from Nugent in the 3rd to make the final 7-2 and give the Little Flyers the big division win. Greg Procopio got his 10th win of the season, stopping 16 of 18 shots against.

 

Next up for the Little Flyers is the EHL Christmas Showcase in Simsbury, CT. The Little Flyers will faceoff against the Valley Jr Warriors on Friday at 4:00pm, the Vermont Lumberjacks at 12:00pm on Saturday and the Boston Bandits on Sunday at 12:00pm.
