Little Flyers Sweep EHL Christmas Showcase

Enter Christmas Break with League Best 24-2-3 Record

The Little Flyers wrapped up the first half of the 2014-15 season with a 3 game sweep at the EHL Christmas Showcase in Simsbury, CT. Game 1 was a close contest against the Valley Jr Warriors. The Little Flyers out-shot the Warriors 34-23 and received goals from Gabe Chuckran on the powerplay and Oleg Potemkin to notch a 2-1 victory. Assists came from John Nugent (2), Hector Majul and Cameron Berry. Trevor Micucci registered his 12th win of the season in net.  

Saturday afternoon the Little Flyers took on the Vermont Jr Lumberjacks and put together a very dominating performance. Phil Zbell got the Little Flyers on the board early on with an excellent shot from the top left circle that beat the goaltender over his glove. Newcomer Nick Skerlick and Garrett Gallagher registered assists. Just a short time later Skerlick got back on the scoresheet as he deflected a shot from Gabe Chuckrans into the net. Colin Woods also was credited with an assist on the play. Less than a minute later Hector Majul found the back of the net with Oleg Potemkin and John Nugent getting assists on the goal. Just 3 minutes later Zach Felser, back from a lengthy injury, found the back of the net on a great individual effort. John Nugent set Felser up and was rewarded with league leading 30th assist of the season. Felser found the back of the net again for the Little Flyers late in the game on great passes by Austin Kelly and Cam Berry. The Lumberjacks spoiled the shutout for Greg Procopio late in the game by scoring on the Powerplay. 

Sunday the Little Flyers faced off against the Boston Bandits. With the Christmas break on the mind They got off to a sluggish start, allowing the Bandits to get on the board first. Cam Berry evened the score at 1 on a nice finish from a Zach Felser pass. Felser then gave the Little Flyers the lead with his 3rd goal of the weekend. Berry and Kelly registered assists on the goal. Less than a minute later the Little Flyers struck again. This time Colin Woods drove hard to the back post and Gabe Chuckran threaded a pass that Woods buried to give the Little Flyers the 3-1. Trevor Micucci stood tall at the end of the game as the Bandits had a flurry of pressure but alas the Little Flyers were able to claim their league leading 24th win of the season. Miccuci Claimed his 13th win of the season and the Little Flyers became the first team to 50 points for the 2014-15 season. 

The Little Flyers are back in action January 3rd and 4th as they travel to take on the New Jersey Rockets on the 3rd and then return home to face off against the Hartford Wolfpack.
