Berry scores 5 Goals Including Hat Trick vs Wolfpack

The Little Flyers got back to EHL action this past weekend as they traveled to Newark to face the New Jersey Rockets in a big South Division Matchup. Coming off an extended holiday break and only having 2 days of practice the Flyers took very little time getting back into the swing of things. Just 45 seconds into the 1st period Pavel Mikhasenok took a pass from Cameron Berry and with a great individual effort scored his 1st goal of the season for the Little Flyers. Hector Majul also registered an assist on the goal. Jesse Macintyre was next to score for the Little Flyers as his linemate Blake Delisle was first on the forecheck and bumped the puck to John Nugent. Nugent dished the puck to Macintyre who one timed it over the goalies shoulder for a 2 goal lead. Berry extended the lead to 3-0 with 5 minutes left in the first period on passes from Austin Kelly and Kyle Martin. The 2nd period was highlighted by 2 Little Flyer shorthanded goals and a 5 on 5 tally by Drew Gannon. MIkhasenok and Majul received assists on Gannons goal to make it 4-0. Cam Berry scored shorthanded on a great individual effort to make it 5-0. Later in the period, shorthanded again, Colin Woods picked the puck up at the defensive goalline and carried the puck end to end. As Phil Zbell drove the back post creating the 2 on 1, Woods snapped the puck short side over the goalies shoulder, blowing up the gatorade water bottle sitting above. The Rockets cut the lead to 6-1 before Blake Delisle found the back of the net on assists from Cody Slocum and Macintyre to extend the lead. The Rockets put on a push at the end but could not cut the lead enough as the Little Flyers won the game by a final of 7-3. Greg Procopio stopped 30-33 shots to register his 12th win of the year and improve the Little Flyers record to 25-3-2.

Sunday afternoon the Little Flyers returned home to take on the Central Division foe Hartford Wolfpack. In a highly anticipated rematch of last season's EHL Quarterfinals, the Little Flyers took control of the game early and often in a route of the Wolfpack. Cameron Berry got the Little Flyers on the board early by registering a powerplay goal at the 7:39 mark of the 1st. Austin Kelly and Zach Felser registered assists on the goal. Less than 2 minutes later Pavel Mikhasenok scored his 2nd goal in as many games as Hector Majul and Drew Gannon were credited with assists. Hartford got on the board late in the period to cut the lead in half but the Little Flyers continued to control the game, outshooting the Wolfpack 18-7 in the 1st. The 2nd period was much of the same as the pressure by the Little Flyers continued. Oleg Potemkin won a race to a dumped puck 4 minutes into the period and bumped the puck to John Nugent, who for the 2nd time in 2 games found Jesse Macintyre streaking to the net for the 3rd goal of the game. Cameron Berry scored his 2nd goal of the game of a great pass by Felser at the 10:30 mark and the lead was extended to 4-1.

The 3rd period was all Little Flyers as Troy Grahl, scored early to make it 5-1 off assists from Gannon and Berry. Felser made it 6-1 on a pretty powerplay goal as Gannon and Berry both made great plays to find Felser open for a wide open one timer. Berry struck for his hat trick on the Penalty Kill as Austin Kelly fed him and he finished to make it 7-1. Brien Caseria finished the scoring for the Little Flyers on great passes from Mikhasenok and Majul. 2 Late goals by the Wolfpack were not enough as the Little Flyers registered a very dominating 8-3 win. Trevor Micucci got his 14th win of the year by stopping 21 of 24 shots. The Little Flyers moved to 26-3-2 on the year, good for 1st place in the EHL.

This weekend the Little Flyers travel to New York to face Applecore on Saturday night and the New York Bobcats on Sunday afternoon.
