The Little Flyers took to the road this weekend for 2 big matchups in NY. First on the schedule was a stop in Brewster to take on the Hot New York Applecore. After a scoreless 1st period Applecore got on the board first just over a minute into the 2nd period. The Little Flyers struck back as Phil Zbell tied the score at 1. Austin Kelly and Zach Felser received assists on the goal. The Little Flyers took the lead at the end of the period on a nice play. Jesse Macintyre received a nice pass from Oleg Potemkin, drew the defender to him and slid the puck to John Nugent. Nugent made no mistake burying the puck in the back of the net and taking a 2-1 lead. The Little Flyers weren’t able to hold the lead in the 3rd as Applecore managed to capitalize on one of their few chances in the 3rd to tie the game and force overtime. After 5 minutes of 4 on 4 the game moved to a shootout. Both goaltenders put up a valiant effort, but Applecore was able to get one past Greg Procopio to claim the extra point and the shootout victory.

Sunday the Little Flyers took the drive from Brewster over to Long Island to take on the streaking NY Bobcats. After spotting the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead, the Little Flyers were able to cut the lead in half Oleg Potemkin finished off great passes from Nugent and Macintyre. The Trio struck again early in the 2nd, this time Nugent was the goal scorer, with Potemkin and Macintyre getting the assists. Drew Gannon scored on the powerplay less than 2 minutes later and that quickly the Little Flyers took the lead. Just a minute later Zach Felser Received a pass from Austin Kelly and one timed it into the net to double the lead to 4-2. Troy Grahl also received an assist on the goal.  The Bobcats cut the lead to 4-3 late in the 2nd but that was as close as they could get.  Tyler Pietrowski scored midway through the 3rd on an assist from Pavel Mikhasenok to make it 5-3 and Cam Berry scored on a great individual effort to make it 6-3. Trevor Micucci stopped 26-29 shots to earn his league leading 15th Win of the season.
