Little Flyers Claim EHL Regular Season Title

35-3-4 record is best ever with 2 games still remaining

 

The Little Flyers EHL Team entered the weekend 5 points shy of locking up the EHL Regular Season Title, as well as home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. With 6 possible points on the line the Little Flyers needed a sweep of the 3 games to get it done. Friday night brought a rematch against the NY Bobcats. Blake Delisle got the Little Flyers on the board 1st on a great play by both Phil Zbell and Colin Woods to take a 1-0 lead. Just over 2 minutes later Austin Kelly struck on the powerplay on assists from Zach Felser and Drew Gannon to take a 2-0 lead. Phil Zbell extended the lead to 3-0 near the end of the period as he finished a great 2 on 1 pass from Woods to take the 3-0 lead.  Felser notched his 2nd assist of the game on the goal. The Bobcats cut the lead to 3-1 in the 2nd period before the Little Flyers Cam Berry was able to notch another Little Flyer Powerplay goal on assists from Oleg Potemkin and Gabe Chuckran.  The Bobcats cut the lead in half with their net empty but that was as close as they got. Gannon extended the lead to 5-2 with an empty net goal to finish the game and push the Little Flyers 2 points closer to a title. Greg Procopio got the win in the net stopping 18 of 20 shots against.

Saturday night the NY Applecore invaded Aston Ice Works looking to move up the central division standings while the Little Flyers looked to inch closer to the Title. It was no question who was chasing the League title as the Little Flyers put 8 on the board in dominating fashion to win the game 8-2. 7 different goal scorers got on the sheet Nugent (2), Gannon, Kelly, Delisle, Pietrowski, Grahl, and Chuckran. Assists went to Gannon (2), Felser (2), Kelly (2), Gallagher, Slocum, Macintyre, Skerlick, Delisle, Nugent, Grahl, and Chuckran. Trevor Micucci got the win in net stopping 34 of 36 shots.

Sunday the Little Flyers needed 1 point to secure the Championship and the NJ Titans standing in the way. After spotting the Titans a 1-0 lead John Nugent got the Little Flyers on the board with a Powerplay goal. Gabe Chuckran and Jesse Macintyre assisted to tie the game at 1. Just 2 minutes into the 2nd period Macintyre struck again on assists from Potemkin and Nugent to give the Little Flyers the lead. Colin Woods then extended the lead for the Little Flyers on assists from Nick Skerlick and Chuckran. Austin Kelly made the lead 4-2 midway through the 3rd on assists from Macintyre and Gannon. For Macintyre he registered is 100th point in a Little Flyer Jersey. Nick Skerlick finished the scoring on assists from Woods and Brien Caseria to lock up the EHL regular season title. Greg Procopio stopped 24 of 26 shots against to earn the monumental Little Flyer win. By claiming the league title the Little Flyers have assured themselves of home ice advantage for the duration of the EHL playoffs.

The Little Flyers have 2 games remaining on the regular season schedule this weekend against the Philadelphia Revolution and the Jr Flyers. With a record of 35-3-4 the Little Flyers are looking to extend the best record ever in the EHL. Both games will be available on www.fasthockey.com as well as www.pointstreak.com
