4 Goal 3rd Period Propels Little Flyers to Quarterfinals

The Little Flyers entered game 2 of their playoff series with visions of a sweep in mind. After a convincing 9-0 victory in game 1 it seemed to be a given they would achieve their goal. In fact it took the Little Flyers only 54 seconds to pick up where they left off the night before as Phil Zbell picked up a pass from John Nugent and fired it over the shoulder of the Jr Warriors goaltender to take an early 1-0 lead. Oleg Potemkin received the 2nd assist on the marker. The Jr Warriors, instead of folding up, ramped up the pressure and played like a team with their season on the line. Keeping the pressure on the Warriors got on the board with a minute left in the 1st period to tie the game at 1. The 2nd period was much of the same with the action moving back and forth and both goaltenders standing strong in their net. Finally at the 5:49 mark the Little Flyers took the lead. Colin Woods won a puck battle behind the net and found Chris Best open on the Blueline. Best passed it over to Gabe Chuckran who blasted the puck past the goaltender to make the score 2-1. The period ended that way and the Little Flyers found themselves with a 1 goal lead and 20 minutes to play to advance to the EHL Quarterfinals. "We had to battle through some adversity" Said Little Flyer Head Coach Rocky Russo. "We got away from our details and the Jr Warriors were able to continue to bring the pressure, fortunately Greg (Procopio) was strong in the net for us when we needed him." The Line of Pavel Mikhasenok, Drew Gannon and Hector Majul then took the game into their hands and helped the Little Flyers pull away. with 11 minutes on the clock Mikhasenok found the back of the net to make the score 3-1. Gannon and Majul registered assists. 4 minutes later it was Majul's turn as he walked out of corner and beat the goaltender to make the score 4-1. Mikhasenok and Garrett Gallagher were credited with assists on the goal. 3 minutes later Blake Delisle picked off a breakout pass from the Jr Warrior defenseman and beat the goaltender for an unassisted goal and the rout was on. Mikhasenok registered his 2nd goal of the game on the powerplay to finish the scoring with Gannon and Chuckran getting assists. "Our depth is what has been the key to our success this season" said Russo. "Every night it seems like we get scoring from a different line. Its certainly nice as a coach to know that every shift your team is capable of putting the puck in the net."

Greg Procopio Stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced to earn his 1st win of the playoffs and 19th win of the year. The Little Flyers record now moves to 39-3-4 on the year. They now wait for the results of the remaining EHL playoff series' to find out their quarterfinal opponent will be. The Quarterfinal games will all be played at Aston Iceworks.
