The Eastern Hockey League announced today that Gabe Chuckran of the Philadelphia Little Flyers has been named the EHL's Defenseman of the Year.

The 1994 birth year player from Media, Pa., just completed his third season in the EHL by helping the Little Flyers to their first-ever regular season crown.  Chuckran was the league's second-leading scorer among defensemen in 2014-15 with 12-21-33 toals and he finished his EHL career with 21-69-90 toals in 115 games.  He logged multiple minutes each night by playing power play and penalty kill and his durability saw him suit up in all 44 games plus four post-season contests.  As a team, Chuckran anchored a stingy Little Flyers squad the allowed only 1.7 goals per game.

"Gabe is a young man of extremely high character," said Little Flyers head coach Rocky Russo.  "His work ethic and compete level, combined with a fantastic skill set and skating ability is what separates him from other players.  He sets the example for what the Little Flyer organization hopes to bring out in each one of our players. There is not a more deserving young man to receive this award and we are very excited and proud of him for his accomplishments. I have no doubt he would be a tremendous addition to any NCAA Division I program in the country."
