Mikhasenok Paces LF with 3 Goals

The Little Flyers EHL Premier team took to the road to start the 2015-16 season against the Connecticut Oilers. Saturday’s game started great for the Little Flyers as Pavel Mikhasenok got them on the board with a shot from the top of the left circle over the goaltender’s glove. A few minutes later Defenseman Daylan Lipanovich carried the puck from behind the Little Flyer net, down the ice and into the Oiler zone. He pushed the puck past the defender and fired the puck over the goalie’s glove for a 2-0 lead. The Little Flyers took that lead into the 2nd period only to see it disappear with a 4 goal outburst by the Oilers. The Little Flyers made a late push in the 3rd with a powerplay goal by Tim Higginbotham but it was too little too late as the Flyers dropped the opener 5-3 . George Blinick took the loss in net 28 of 33 shots.

Sunday the Little Flyers were back at the Sono Ice House, looking for a weekend road split. The Little Flyers got on the board first on a powerplay goal by Tyler Pietrowski. The Oilers evened up the score at 1 4 minutes later and the 1st period would end 1-1. The 2nd period was again filled with fireworks, only this time it was the Little Flyers setting them off. Austin Kelly netted his first goal of the year and the Little Flyers 2nd PP goal of the game to take a 2-1 lead. Defenseman Jon Waring extended the lead to 3-1 on an incredible individual effort. Higginbotham scored his 2nd goal in as many days on a breakaway to take a 4-1 lead and just like that the route was on. Oleg Potemkin scored a powerplay goal a few minutes later to take a 5-1 lead and Mikhasenok scored his 2nd goal of the weekend to extend the lead to 6-1 before the period was over. The Oilers scored a questionable goal with the net off the pegs with under a minute left to make the score 6-2 at the end of the 2nd. Mikhasenok added a shorthanded goal and Waring scored his second of the game in the 3rd to make the final score 8-2 and secure the split for the Little Flyers. Sam Kany stopped 20 of 22 shots on goal to earn his 1st win between the pipes as a Little Flyer. Next up for the Flyers is home opening weekend against the Connecticut Nighthawks on October 3rd and 4th. Puck drop will be 3:30pm on Saturday and 12:00pm on Sunday. Both games will be at Aston Iceworks.
