The Little Flyers took to the ice for the first time at home this past weekend, facing off in a weekend set against the Connecticut Nighthawks. Coming into the weekend with a 1 and 1 record the Flyers were looking for a great effort on home ice. After a slow start to the 1st Period, Mitch Ossowski got the Little Flyers on the board with a powerplay goal, his 1st goal of the season. Not long after the goal Christian Karbler was ejected from the game for a major boarding penalty and the Little Flyers had a 5 minute penalty to kill off. The Nighthawks took advantage on the PP, tying the game at 1. The game didn’t stay tied for long as Ossowski found the back of the net again at the 14 minute mark to give the Little Flyers a 2-1 lead. The 2nd period was all Little Flyers as they netted 4 goals to take a 6-1 lead. Jonathan Waring started the scoring on the powerplay at the 6:42 mark. Ossowski finished off his hat trick at the 13:52 mark, and was quickly followed up by Tyler Pietrowski and Pavel Mikhasenok finding the back of the net before the period expired. The 3rd period saw Tim Higginbotham net a powerplay goal and Evan Heldt find the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Mikhasenok and Ossowski finished the game with 4 points respectively and Sam Kany registered the win in net stopping 11 of the 13 shots he faced. Nighthawk goalie Jordan Bustard received the loss in net, stopping 51 of 59 shots against.

Sunday brought a rematch against the Nighthawks and an opportunity for the Little Flyers to get their first sweep of the year. The Little Flyers didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard as Daylan Lipanovich fired the puck from the point on the powerplay and found the back of the net. The period ended 1-0 with the Flyers firmly in control of the play. The Little Flyers continued to put on the pressure in the 2nd period as Oleg Potemkin and Ossowski found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0. In the 3rd period the Powerplay was the show as Pietrowski and Higginbotham both found the back of the net to extend the lead to 5-0. The Nighthawks spoiled the shutout with a late goal but it was too little too late as the Flyers secured a 5-1 victory. Gennaro Anzevino stopped 16 of 17 shots to register his first win of the season. Austin Kelly and Lipanovich lead the offensive charge with 3 points each.

Next up for the Little Flyers is the EHL Columbus Day Showcase in Nashua, NH. The Little Flyers first game will be Saturday October 10 at 4:20pm against the Boston Bandits.
