Little Flyers Sweep Cross Town Rival Revolution in Convincing Fashion

Little Flyer Win Streak Extended to 7 Games

 

The Little Flyers spent last week gearing up for a huge home and home series with the Philadelphia Revolution. The Revolution sat at the top of the South Division Standings with a 17-5-2 record. The Little Flyers entered the weekend with the EHL’s top winning percentage and 4 games in hand on the Revolution. The Little Flyers made the trip across town for a Saturday night puck drop. The Little Flyers took control of the game early, getting the 1st 5 shots on net. Unfortunately the Revolution capitalized on a Little Flyer turnover and found the back of the net against Goaltender Brock Thompson for an early 1-0 lead. Less than 4 minutes later the Little Flyers evened the score as Oleg Potemkin found the back of the net. Austin Kelly and Phil Zbell got assists on the goal. The Revolution wasted no time reclaiming the lead as Bryce Witman beat Thompson through the 5 hole for a 2-1 lead. The Little Flyers tied the game back up as Austin Kelly beat Primeau on the short side. Potemkin and Zbell notched assists on the game tying marker. The Little Flyers took full control over the game in the 2nd period, outshooting the revolution 16-4. Fortunately for the Revolution Primeau stood tall in the net as Phil Zbell found the net for the only goal of the 2nd period. The Little Flyers extended the lead just 40 seconds into the 3rd period as Tim Higginbotham scored on the Powerplay on assists from Kelly and Braden Mitchell. Mitch Ossowski extended the lead to 5-2 with another Powerplay goal on assists from Pavel Mikhasenok and Tyler Pietrowski. The Revolution managed to find the net once more but Pietrowski sealed the W by scoring an empty net goal to claim the 6-3 victory. Brock Thompson claimed his 6th win of the season stopping 18-21 shots while Cayden Primeau took the loss, his 2nd in a row, stopping 46 of 51 shots on goal.

Sunday the Revolution traveled to Aston, PA in search of revenge after losing on home ice the night before. This time the Little Flyers were the 1st to find the scoreboard as Tyler Pietrowski one timed the puck past Revolution goaltender Mike Cosentino. Oleg Potemkin and Peter Hatton got assists on the goal. The 2nd period was all Little Flyers as they outscored the Revolution 4-1 in the 20 minute frame. Pavel Mikhasenok found the back of the net on the powerplay to grab a 2-0 lead. Bruce Stachitas and Peter Hatton got assists on the goal. The Revolution cut the lead in half but that was as close as they would come. It took only 20 seconds for the Little Flyers to get back on the board as Mikhasenok found the net again. Stachitas got another assist on the goal as well as Ian Socrates, who registered his 1st point of the season. Frank Castrodale scored his 1st goal in a Little Flyer uniform to take a 4-1 lead as Potemkin and Kelly got on the scoresheet with assists. Mitch Ossowski finished up the 2nd period scoring as he scored his team leading 15th goal of the season. Stachitas registered yet another assist as well as Braden Mitchell to take the commanding 5-1 lead. The Revolution attempted to keep the score relatively close by putting young all-star goalie Cayden Primeau into the net for the 3rd period. The strategy worked for the first 6 minutes as the Revolution found the back of the net on the powerplay to cut the lead to 5-2. Primeau made a few early period saves to keep the Revolution in the game. 15 seconds after the Revolution scored the Little Flyers took the game back over as Pietrowski found the back of the net for the 2nd time of the game to extend the lead to 6-2. Christian Karbler and Mitchell assisted on the goal. Pietrowski scored his 3rd of the game 6 minutes later to record his 11th goal of the season and first hat trick of as a Little Flyer. Mitchell and Hatton assisted on the goal. Stachitas finished up the scoring by registering a powerplay goal. Hatton and Mikhasenok assisted on the Little Flyers 8th goal of the game. Sam Kany registered his 7th win of the season for the Little Flyers, stopping 28 of 29 shots against.
