Little Flyers Dominate Hartford Jr Wolfpack in 2 Game Sweep

19 Goal Weekend Sparks Offense

This past weekend The Little Flyers traveled to Hartford to start the second half of the EHL season against the Jr Wolfpack. The matchup was billed as the EHL game of the week and pitted the two teams in the EHL with the top 2 winning percentages overall. Game one Started fast for the Little Flyers as just 1:24 into the period Mitch Ossowski found the back of the net on a 2 on 1 with Pavel Mikhasenok. Tyler Pietrowski also registered an assist on the even strength goal. 7 minutes later the Little Flyers extended the lead to 2-0 on Ryan Burn’s first goal of the season. Chris Best and Oleg Potemkin assisted on the marker.

The Little Flyers picked up where they left off at the start of the 2nd period as Ossowski found the back of the next at the 1:06 mark off an assist by Pietrowski and Jamie Bucell scored a minute later on assists by Peter Hatton and Tim Higginbotham. The Wolfpack cut the lead to 4-1 at the 5 minute mark but that didn’t last long as Ossowski finished off the Hat trick by finding the back of the net with a powerplay goal. Mikhasenok and Bruce Stachitas were credited with assists on his 3rd goal of the game.

The 3rd period turned into a high scoring affair as each team potted 4 goals. Ossowski started the scoring with his 4th goal of the game on an assist by Trevor Lewandoski. The Wolfpack would net the next 3 goals to make the score 6-4 but that was as close as they would get. Phil Zbell found the back of the net at the 9:55 mark on assists from Potemkin and Austin Kelly to make the score 7-4. A minute later Stachitas scored on the Powerplay on assists from Mikhasenok and Hatton to get to 8-4. 2 minutes after that Higginbotham scored a powerplay goal off assists by Stachitas and Potemkin to get the 9th goal of the game. The Wolfpack found the back of the net to get to 9-5 and that is how the game finished. Brock Thompson got the win in net for the Little Flyers to improve his record to 9-0 on the season.

Sunday the two teams were back at it and the Little Flyers offense continued to fire on all cylinders.  Potemkin netted a powerplay goal just 2 minutes into the game as Mikhasenok and Kelly assisted on the goal. Higginbotham found the back of the net 3 minutes later on an assist from Hatton. 3 minutes later the Little Flyers extended the lead to 3-0 as Kelly scored a powerplay goal. Braden Mitchell and Zbell assisted on the goal. The Little Flyers won the ensuing faceoff and took off down there ice on an odd man rush. Pietrowski took a pass from Mikhasenok and found the back of the net to make it 4-0. Mitchell also assisted on the goal. Zbell finished the 1st period scoring by taking an assist from Kelly and ripping it past the Wolfpack goalie. Best also assisted on the goal.

The 2nd period was much the same as the Little Flyers continued to pour it on, clearly learning from their mistake the game before. Pietrowski netted his 2nd of the game at the 5:15 mark to make the score 6-0 as Ossowski and Mikhasenok registered assists. 5 minutes later the Little Flyers scored yet again, this time on the Powerplay as Potemkin finished on assists from Mitchell and Zbell. 8 minutes later it was the Little Flyers again finding the net as Tyler Pietrowski scored his 3rd goal of the game to finish the Hat Trick. Kelly and Potemkin were credited with assists on the even strength goal. The 2nd period ended with an 8-0 Little Flyer lead as the Route was on.

The 3rd period was relatively quiet as the Little Flyers held a comfortable lead. Midway through the period Ossowski found the back of the net on assists from Pietrowski and Mikhasenok. Pietrowski netted his 4th goal of the game at the 15 minute mark as Ossowski and Mikhasenok assisted on that goal as well. Sam Kany earned the shutout for the Little Flyers, stopping all 37 shots he faced for his 9th win of the season.
