Little Flyers Finish Tough Week with 4-0 Record

3-0 Record at EHL Showcase, Russo Collects 100th Little Flyer Win

The Philadelphia Little Flyers entered a tough stretch in their schedule as the traveled to the EHL Showcase to face the NH Monarchs, Northern Cyclones and Boston Jr Rangers. First up on the schedule was the Monarchs, who entered the game in 2nd place in the North division. The Little Flyers got on the board just over 5 minutes into the 1st as Nate Chuckran took a pass from Chad Watt and fired a writer over the blocker and into the net for an early 1-0 lead. Austin Kelly also assisted on the goal. just two minutes later the Little Flyers extended the lead as Pavel Mikhasenok found the net on the powerplay to make the score 2-0. Kelly and Oleg Potemkin assisted on the marker. The Monarchs battled back to tie the score at 2 and force the game into overtime. With 1 second remaining on the clock Mikhasenok took a pass from Braden Mitchell and one-timed the puck into the net to secure the Little Flyer victory. Brock Thompson made 22 saves in the game to earn the win. With the victory Little Flyer Head Coach Rocky Russo notched win #100 as a Head Coach.

Sunday the Little Flyers took on the Northern Cyclones. The Little Flyers got down early as the Cyclones beat Sam Kany twice to hold a 2-0 lead at the break. The Little Flyers dominated the rest of the game, scoring 5 unanswered goals to take the win. Potemkin netted 2 goals, Phil Zbell, Chris Best and Mikhasenok scored the others. Kelly had 4 assists in the game, Zbell had 2 and Potemkin and Tim Higginbotham chipped in one a piece. Kany stopped 26 shots in the 5-2 victory. 

Monday the Little Flyers battled the Jr. Rangers chasing a weekend sweep and a 7-2 EHL Showcase record. Mikhasenok got the Little Flyers on the board first, taking a pass from Tyler Pietrowski and scoring just 7 seconds into the game. The game remaining tight as the Jr Rangers tied the score up at 1 going into the break. Potemkin gave the Little Flyers the lead again as he netted a powerplay goal on assists from Kelly and Higginbotham. The Jr. Rangers battled back again to score and force the Little Flyers into overtime for the 3rd time this season. This OT went all the way to a shootout and Zbell potted the Shootout winner, as the only scorer for either team. Thompson stopped 27 shots to stretch his season record to 11-0. 

Wednesday night brought a tough South Division matchup as the Philadelphia Revolution traveled cross town for the midweek game. The Little Flyers entered the game with a 24-6 record and sitting in 1st place in the South division. The Revolution entered the game with a record of 21-9-3 and in a tie for 3rd in the south. The Little Flyers struck first as Christian Karbler took a pass from Chuckran and slipped the puck past the Revolution goalie for the only goal of the 1st period. The 2nd period was all Little Flyers as they put 5 goals on the scoreboard. Pietrowski scored on assists from Best and Mikhasenok to make it 2-0 just 53 seconds into the period. about 7 minutes later Higginbotham netted his 10th Powerplay goal on assists from Kelly and Mitchell to make it 3-0. Just over a minute later Higginbotham did it again as he tipped in a Potemkin shot to score his 11th PP goal of the year. Zbell notched an assist on the goal to make it 4-0. Late in the period Kelly got on the Powerplay goal train, scoring the 3rd PP goal of the period to make it 5-0. Zbell and Mitchell assisted on the goal. Mikhasenok finished the 2nd period scoring on a great feed from Peter Hatton to make the score 6-0. Bruce Stachitas also assisted on the goal. The Revolution managed to score to goals in the 3rd but that was as close as it would get as the Little Flyers notched win number 25 by a score of 6-2. Kany Stopped 27 shots to secure his 12th win of the season. 

The Little Flyers weekend trip to Simsbury, CT to square off with the Nighthawks was postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescheduled for a later date. Next up for the Little Flyers is the South Division Showcase in Warwick, PA. The Little Flyers will serve as the host team as the square off with the NY Bobcats, NY Applecore and NJ Rockets.
