9 Goals and 4 Assists Push Him to League Lead in Goals

The Little Flyers took to the ice this past weekend in the EHL South Conference Showcase. With a 3 game weekend scheduled against the NY Bobcats, NY Applecore and NJ Rockets, the Little Flyers were certainly in for a challenge. First up was the Bobcats, Who defeated the Little Flyers 4-2 last time they met. The game went back and forth for most of the 1st period until Tim Higginbotham found the back of the net at the 14:55 mark of the period. Phil Zbell and Christian Karbler registered assists on the even strength goal. The Bobcats knotted the game at 1 with a powerplay marker just over a minute later, however the tie game lasted only 45 seconds as the Mitch Ossowski wristed the puck over the goalies glove to reclaim the lead. Tyler Pietrowski and Shawn O’Meara assisted on the even strength goal. The 2nd period was all Little Flyers as they added 2 goals to the score board to stretch the lead to 4-1. Bruce Stachitas scored just 3:38 into the period on an assist by Evan Heldt to make it 3-1. Ossowski netted his 2nd goal of the game at the 8:45 mark of the period as Pietrowski and Trevor Lewandoski assisted on the goal. The 3rd period was a preview of the rest of the weekend as Pietrowski started his offensive explosion, scoring on the powerplay and even strength to make the final 6-1. Phil Zbell and Chris Best assisted on the powerplay goal and Ossowski assisted on the even strength goal to make the final 6-1. Brock Thompson stopped 26 of 27 shots against to register his 12th win of the season.

Saturday was a very one sided affair as the Little Flyers faced off against the NY Applecore. The Little Flyers scored early and often, producing 56 shots on net and 10 goals for. Tyler Pietrowski led the way with 4 goals on the day and also chipped in an assist. The other goal scorers were Oleg Potemkin, Will Vanderveen, Chad Watt, Higginbotham, Ossowski and Austin Kelly. Kelly and Zbell helped pace the offense with 4 assists, while Pavel Mikhasenok and Ian Socrates each chipped in with 2. Sam Kany notched his 13th win of the season by stopping 16 of 17 in the 10-1 victory.

Sunday the Little Flyers looked to finish off the weekend sweep by knocking off the NJ Rockets. The Flyers took the 1st two games against the Rockets in dominating fashion and looked to continue that trend. Tyler Pietrowski continued his weekend dominance by scoring the first 3 goals for the Little Flyers to register his second consecutive hat trick. The 1st goal was assisted by Heldt and Ossowski, the 2nd just by Ossowski and the 3rd unassisted. The Little Flyers then managed to net 4 powerplay goals in the 3rd to make the final 7-0. Higginbotham from Ossowski and Stachitas started the 3rd period scoring. Karbler from Kelly and Higginbotham made it 5-0. Jamie Bucell from Socrates and Watt made it 6-0 and Mikhasenok from Peter Hatton and Pietrowski made it 7-0. Brock Thompson stopped all 22 shots he faced to stretch his record to 13-0 on the season.

The Little Flyers now hold a record of 28-6, good for 56 points and first place overall in the EHL. Next up on the schedule is a visit from the Connecticut Oilers Feb 6 at and 7 at Iceworks skating complex. Both games start at 12:30pm.
