Little Flyers Win EHL League Title

33-8 Record Claims Back to Back Titles

The Little Flyers Traveled to Simsbury, CT Tuesday and Wednesday to take on the Connecticut Nighthawks in the final two games of the EHL regular season. With the South Division title wrapped up for the 3rd consecutive season, the Little Flyers had their sights set on Back to Back EHL Regular season titles. With 3 of 4 points necessary to take over the league lead from the Boston Bandits, the boys knew it was going to take to victories to keep the Cup in Philadelphia. 

The Little Flyers didn't take long to take the lead as Jamie Bucell took a centering pass from Chad Watt and Beat the Nighthawk goalie to take an early 1-0 lead. Ian Socrates also assisted on the even strength goal. Just over 4 minutes later the Flyers found themselves in a 4 on 4 situation. Tyler Pietrowski received a pass from Chris Best and carried the puck into the offensive zone. He beat the Defenseman wide and found Oleg Potemkin streaking to the back post and hit him with a pass for a quick one timer into the net for a 2 goal lead. Watt extended the lead to 3-0 at the 17:55 mark of the 1st as he took a Socrates pass and beat the goalie 5 hole. Ryan Burns also assisted on the goal. The score remained that way until late in the 3rd period when Pavel Mikhasenok took a pass from Mitch Ossowski and scored to make the final 4-0. Best registered his 2nd assist of the game. Brock Thompson stopped all 21 shots he faced to register his 3rd shutout of the season and improve his record to 15-1 for the year. 

Wednesday the Little Flyers were in search of their 2nd consecutive league title in the EHL. Ryan Burns got on the board just 1:30 into the first as he fired a wrist shot from the point over the goaltenders shoulder. Christian Karbler and Tim Higginbotham assisted on the goal. Higginbotham found the back of the net at the 9:12 mark on assists from Karbler and Adem Arifi. 6 minutes later Austin Kelly extended the league to 3-0 on assists from Pietrowski and Potemkin to seal the game and the League title. Sam Kany stopped all 23 shots he faced for his 4th shutout of the league and improved his record to 15-6. 

Next up for the Little Flyers is their first round playoff series against the same Connecticut Nighthawks.
