Round 2 opponent announced

The Little Flyers entered the Playoffs knowing they had a tough task on their hands for the first round of the playoffs as the Connecticut Nighthawks had played them very tough in the last 2 games of the regular season. Game one was no different as the Nighthawks pushed the pace and goalie Jordan Bustard kept the team in the game. It took the Little Flyers until the 1:31 mark of the 2nd period to get on the scoreboard. Christian Karbler blocked a shot from the Nighthawks defenseman and took off on a breakaway. Bustard made the initial save but Tim Higginbotham was trailing the play and found the back of the net on the rebound. The game remained tight until late in the 3rd when Pavel Mikhasenok received a 2 on 1 pass from Peter Hatton and beat the goalie on the back door to make the score 2-1. Oleg Potemkin iced the game at the 19:07 mark as he received a pass from Mikhasenok and dumped the puck into the empty net. Evan Heldt also assisted on the empty net goal. Brock Thompson stopped all 16 shots he faced to register his 2nd consecutive shutout and improve his record to 16-1 on the season.

Sunday in game 2 of the best of 3 series against the Nighthawks the Little Flyers got on the board much quicker. Oleg Potemkin took a pass Austin Kelly and found the back of the net on the powerplay. Adem Arifi also assisted on the goal. Just over a minute later the Little Flyers struck again on the PP as Arifi one-timed a pass from Tim Higginbotham into the net for a 2-0 lead. Austin Kelly assisted on the Little Flyers second powerplay goal of the period. The Nighthawks cut the lead in half with just over 3 minutes to go in the period but the Little Flyers quickly extended the lead again as Austin Kelly took a pass from Potemkin and beat the goalie for a 3-1 lead going into the break. Trevor Lewandoski also assisted on the even strength goal. Half way through the 2nd period Higginbotham drove the net and found Nate Chuckran in the slot. Chuckran ripped the puck up over the goalies glove to give the Little Flyers a 4-1 lead. The Nighthawks once again cut the lead in half at the 10:55 mark but that is as close as they would come. Potemkin netted his 3rd goal of the series as he scored on the powerplay to seal the game at 5-2. Kelly and Higginbotham assisted on the goal. Sam Kany got the win in net for the Little Flyers, stopping in 24 of 26 shots to earn the win.
