Kelly Leads Little Flyers to Sweep of Revolution in EHL Quarterfinals

Advance to Semi-Final against Walpole Express

The Philadelphia Little Flyers entered the EHL Quarterfinals facing a very familiar opponent. Cross Town Rival Philadelphia Revolution stood in the way of the Little Flyers reaching the semifinals. With the 2 opponents so close together the series would shift back and forth between the two teams home rinks. Game 1 would be at the home of the Little Flyers with lots at stake. The Little Flyers got on the board first at the 11:57 mark of the 1st period as Bruce Stachitas took a cross ice pass from Austin Kelly and beat Cayden Primeau on the back door for a powerplay goal. Oleg Potemkin also assisted on the marker. The Revolution evened the score at 1 late in the period as Richie McCartney shoveled a loose puck into the net. The score remained the same until the 17:04 mark of the 2nd period as Guy Roby found the back of the net to give the Revolution a 2-1 advantage. The lead lasted less than 2 minutes as Nate Chuckran evened the score on assists by Chad Watt and Jamie Bucell to send the game to intermission with the score 2-2. It took only 90 seconds into the 3rd period for the Revolution to take the lead as Bryce Witman beat Brock Thompson for the goal. less than 3 minutes later the Little Flyers equaled the score again as Phil Zbell took a cross ice pass from Austin Kelly and beat Primeau with a one timer. Braden Mitchell registered the 2nd assist on the powerplay marker. The score remained tied until the 14:03 mark as Zbell took a pass from Kelly in the slot and scored his 2nd of the game to take a 4-3 lead. The Little Flyers battled hard to hold the lead but the Revolution kept the pressure on. with less than a minute remaining in regulation and the Net empty, the Revolution netted the tying goal off McCartney's stick to send the game into overtime. In OT the pace was fast as both teams had a few offensive chances but were not able to score. Finally the Little Flyers broke through as Tim Higginbotham carried the puck into the offensive zone on a 1 on 1. Primeau made the initial save and kicked the puck into the corner. Higginbotham recovered the rebound and chipped the puck to Peter Hatton. Hatton drove the puck to the front of the net and got a shot on goal. Christian Karbler beat his defender to the net and all in one motion collected the rebound and roofed the puck over Primeau's shoulder for the Overtime game winning goal. Brock Thompson earned the win in net for the Little Flyers stopping 35 of 39 shots against. Cayden Primeau took the loss stopping 37 of 42 shots against. 

Sunday the series shifted to Revolution Gardens for game 2. The Little Flyers looked to end the series and the Revolution needed a win to extend the series to a game 3. The Little Flyers relied on Sam Kany to shut the door in net while the Revolution went back to Cayden Primeau in the cage. The first period was a back and forth affair with each team getting a couple quality scoring chances. Peter Hatton beat Primeau shortside at the 8:10 mark to give the Little Flyers the 1-0 lead. The 2nd period was all Little Flyers as the fired 22 shots on net yet couldn't find the net. The Little Flyers finally broke through at the 5:54 of the second period as Austin Kelly won a faceoff forward in the neutral zone. Oleg Potemkin took possession of the puck and caught the defenseman flat footed as he drove into the offensive zone on a breakaway. After a great fake shot, he pulled the puck to his backhand and fired it over Primeau's glove to make the score 2-0. 3 minutes later the Little Flyers struck again. The Line of Mitch Ossowski, Tyler Pietrowski and Pavel Mikhasenok controlled the puck in the Revolution defensive zone for close to a minute. As they cycled the puck the defense broke down and Ossowski got the puck to the net. Primeau made the initial save but Mikhasenok quickly deposited the rebound into the net for a 3-0 lead. The Little Flyers then managed to find themselves in some penalty trouble, forced to kill off 2 consecutive 5 on 3's the Revolution broke the shutout and cut the lead to 3-1. That was as close as they were able to get as Kany stood tall in net to secure the victory for the Little Flyers and advance them to the EHL Semi-final. Kany stopped 22 of 23 shots to earn the victory. Primeau stopped 41 of 44 shots against in his 2nd consecutive loss.
