Winter Classic, New Twigs & More
Each day from now until Christmas we will sit down and talk to a player from the Little Flyers Eastern Hockey League Junior Team to discuss the holiday season. On day fifteen we talked to forward #19 Christian Karbler.
- Favorite thing about Christmas? "Just being around my family, hanging out, cracking jokes, getting to see the people you don’t get to see all year long”
- Favorite Christmas tradition growing up as a kid? “It’s got to be making breakfast in the morning, we make breakfast before we even open our gifts”
- What are you looking forward to most this holiday season? “Just being able to see my mom and my grandparents, I don’t get to see them a lot during the season and we got a new puppy too so that’ll be nice”
- Favorite Christmas Food? “My stepmom’s pull apart bread, It’s like a cinnamon roll but it’s all together in the pan like brownies and its fluffy like French toast, it’s really good”
- Favorite Christmas Movie? “A Christmas Story”
- Favorite Christmas Song? “Last Christmas by Ella Fitzgerald”
- Most Memorable Christmas? “I don’t remember what year it was but we had a huge snow storm and we didn’t even get to go anywhere, not to my grandparents and I didn’t get to go to my dad’s because we couldn’t even get out of the house”
- Best gift you’ve ever received? “I got tickets to the Winter Classic to see the Wings play at the big house at U of M”
- Worst gift you’ve ever received? “One year I asked for new twigs, that’s what it said on my Christmas list so my grampa took that literally so he got a big hockey stick box and filled it with sticks from the backyard”
- Do you shop early or last minute? “Last minute, I’m terrible with it but this year I did really good. I’m done most of my shopping but still have a little bit left to do”
- Hardest person in your family to shop for? “Definitely my grampa, he’s the most stubborn, he doesn’t know what he wants and then he makes a list for us last minute”
- If you had to pick either Kevin McCallister from Home Alone or Ralphie from a Christmas story to play in a defensive pair with? “I’m going with Ralphie, he’s a tough guy, you know he stands up to bullies so I think me and him play a lot alike”
- Hot Chocolate or Egg Nog? “Hot chocolate, I can’t stand egg nog”
- If you could get one gift this year what would it be? “Definitely a championship. After last year I want to win it this year”
