Scott Leads EHLP in Scoring Through Three Weeks

Aston,PA --  This past weekend the Little Flyers EHL Premier team played a home and home series with South Conference rival and the defending EHLP champion Philadelphia Revolution.  Game one was on the Revolution's home ice at Revolution Ice Gardens.  Kolin Grogesky got the start in net for the Little Flyers.  The Revolution struck first in this game, scoring a goal at the 2:10 mark of the first period.  The Little Flyers had several scoring chances in the period but were unable to find the tying goal in the period.  Isiah Maine was able to add to the Revolution's lead with just over two and a half minutes led to play in the period.  Even though the Little Flyers outshot the Revolution in the period, 14-9, they trailed 2-0 on the scoreboard.

The second period was a chippy one as both teams picked up the physicality and combined for eleven penalties.  The Revolution added to their lead midway through the second when they scored two goals in three minutes.  With just under two minutes to play, Kyle Scott finally got the Little Flyers on the board with a power play goal that was assisted by Eric Maard.  The Little Flyers needed a big third period offensively, down three goals with twenty minutes left to play.

The Revolution once again increased their lead to four at the 5:46 mark of the third period.  Several minutes later, Scott answered back for the Little Flyers scoring his sixth goal of the season; line mates Ryan Sharkey and Austin Mazzulo were credited with assists on Scott's second goal of the game.  A minute and a half later, Sergei Kern scored his first goal as a Little Flyer to bring his team within two.  Scott, assisted by Matt Crane, would answer the call again for the Little Flyers scoring his third goal of the game, this time while shorthanded.  Seeing their once comfortable lead slip away, the Revolution turned the pressure up and were able to get their lead back to two.  With 3:13 left to play in the game Scott would strike again, scoring his 4th goal of the game to cut the lead to one.  The Little Flyers were unable to tie the game in the closing moments, falling to the Revolution by a final score of 6-5.

On Sunday, the Little Flyers looked to close the weekend with a win on home ice with Ryan Creenan getting the start in net.  The Little Flyers were aggressive early in the period, sustaining pressure in the Revolution defensive zone.  The Revolution were on a power play midway through the period thanks to a tripping penalty against the Little Flyers.  Jeff Gross of the Revolution would capitalize on the opportunity to put his team up 1-0.  Just as he did all weekend the Little Flyers responded in the form of Kyle Scott.  The EHLP's leading scorer tied the game at 1-1 forty six seconds after the Revolution took the lead, Sharkey and Mazzulo got the assists.  In the first period the Little Flyers looked good defensively, only allowing six shots on goal for the Revolution.

The second period was another back and forth twenty minutes between the two teams.  The visiting Revolution took a two goal lead with 13 minutes left to play in the period.  Austin Mazzulo's power play goal cut the Revolution lead to 3-2.  The goal was courtesy of an Eric Maard shot from the point and hard work in front of the net by Sharkey and Mazzulo to gather the rebound and put the puck in the back of the net.  With less than three minutes remaining in the period and the Little Flyers shorthanded Scott would tie the game with his 6th goal of the weekend.  Scott took the puck into the Revolution zone with a defender on his hip and muscled his way to the net to score the shorthanded goal.  The two teams were tied heading into the third period.

The Revolution pressured Creenan in the third period, challenging the Little Flyers net minder to make several saves through screens and traffic in front of the net.  The Little Flyers found themselves shorthanded with just over three minutes left to play and the game tied at 3-3.  The Revolution took advantage and scored the eventual game winning goal on the power play.  For the game, Creenan finished with 29 saves.

Kyle Scott Leads EHL Premier Scoring Through Three Weeks

Through the first three weeks of the season, Little Flyers forward Kyle Scott sits atop the leaderboard in league scoring.  The '99 birth year forward leads the EHL Premier in scoring with 11 goals and 6 assists for 17 points.  Six of Scott’s goals have come via special teams, two on the power play and four shorthanded.

Scott and his Little Flyers teammates will look to get back in the win column this weekend.  On Saturday the team travels to Regency Sports Rink for an afternoon matchup against the Central Penn Panthers.  On Sunday, the Little Flyers are back on home ice at IceWorks Skating Complex as they host the Jersey Wildcats at 4:30 PM.
