Creenan Named to EHLP TSR Hockey Stars of the Week

Aston,PA - - After losing two one goal games against the defending EHL Premier champion Philadelphia Revolution last week, the Little Flyers looked to get back in the win column and get back to .500 on the season.

Saturday afternoon the Little Flyers traveled to the Regency Sports Rink to face-off against the Central Penn Panthers.  The EHLP’s leading scorer Kyle Scott wasted no time getting the Little Flyers on the board, just :12 into the game Scott took a pass in the slot from Ryan Sharkey and fired it past the Panthers goaltender, Max McAllister also assisted on the play.  Three minutes later Scott scored his second goal of the game when he poked in a loose puck sitting at the side of the Panthers net.  Late in the period while shorthanded, Little Flyers defenseman Eric Maard picked off a pass at center ice and skated into the Panthers zone, unleashing a slap shot that beat the goalie high far side.  The Panthers got their fair share of scoring chances in the period but Ryan Creenan stood tall in net, stopping all 16 shots he faced in the first.

The Little Flyers added to their 3-0 lead just over a minute into the second period.  Ryan Sharkey cleared the puck down into the Panthers zone, the home team’s goalie came out to play the puck but misjudged it and the hustling Daniel Taylor was right there to put the puck into the empty net.  Neither team would be able to score again in the period but got plenty of chances.  The Little Flyers outshot Central Penn 20-18 in the second.

Kyle Scott capped off the hat trick early in the third period, going around a Panthers defenseman and backhanding the puck short side over the goalie’s shoulder.  The goal was Scott’s 14th of the season.  Little Flyers newcomer Dylan Frasher scored his first goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining in the game.  Daniel Taylor would later add his second goal of the game to seal the Little Flyers 7-0 win.  Creenan was stellar in net all game for Philadelphia, making 47 saves and picking up his first career shutout in junior hockey.

On Sunday, the Little Flyers were back on home ice, looking to sweep the weekend and pick up two more points with a win over the Jersey Wildcats.  Kolin Grogesky started the game in net for the home team Little Flyers.  Max McAllister struck first for the Little Flyers, firing a wrist shot past the Wildcats goalie on the power play goal.  McAllister’s goal was assisted by Ryan Sharkey and Austin Mazzulo.  Three minutes later, New Jersey tied the game with a goal from Jason Sergeant.  The two teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the remainder of the first but neither was able to break the 1-1 tie.

The Little Flyers heavily dominated the second period, outshooting the Wildcats 15-4 but were unable to light the lamp.  Grogesky had to come up big in the first three minutes of the  third period as the Wildcats had a 5-on-3 power play chance for over a minute.  After successfully killing off the Wildcats two man advantage, the Little Flyers would finally break the 1-1 tie.  Kyle Scott took a pass from Matt Crane behind the Wildcats net and tried to pass the puck to a cutting Ryan Sharkey but the pass deflected off of a Wildcat defenseman and ended up in the back of the net.  McAllister assisted on Scott’s league leading 15th goal of the season.  With the Wildcats goalie on the bench and an extra attacker on the ice for the visitors, Grogesky and the Little Flyers fought off several of New Jersey’s scoring chances in the final minute of the game to hold on for a 2-1 win.  The victory was Grogesky’s 3rd of the year and brought the team’s record to an even 4-4 on the season.
