Aston,PA — On Thursday afternoon, the Little Flyers EHL team traveled to Revolution Ice Centre for a Mid-Atlantic division game against the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Knights.  The game would be the Little Flyers fourth in seven days.

Reigning TSR Hockey Goaltender of the Week, Brendahn Brawley would get the start in net for the Little Flyers.  This would be the first meeting between the two teams since the Little Flyers took two games on opening weekend.  The first period saw both teams trade scoring chances but neither was able to find the back of the net.  In the period, Wilkes Barre/Scranton outshot the Little Flyers 11-9.

Philadelphia wasted little time taking advantage of a power play early in the second period.  Defenseman Zikmund Mroz found the EHL’s leading scorer Alex Ochterbeck down low in the slot, Ochterbeck made a move and backhanded the puck past the Knights goalie, Nick Magill-Diaz also assisted on the play.  The Knights answered back several minutes later with Denys Arkhypenko tying the game at 1-1.  The tied game wouldn’t last long as just under a minute later, Ochterbeck put the Little Flyers back on top.  With the puck along the wall, Ricky Walsh found linemate Joey Savel who backhanded it across to Ochterbeck for the one timer goal.  Three minutes later, the Knights battled back once again, tying the game.

The two teams remained deadlocked at 2-2 until the closing minutes of the second period.  With 2:02 left on the clock, Ochterbeck, Savel and Walsh would connect once again.  Walsh won a battle along the boards, getting the puck free to Savel.  Savel passed the puck down low to Ochterbeck moving towards the net, Ochterbeck made a move and slid the puck five hole to complete the hat trick.  The three goal game was Ochterbeck’s 4th multi goal game of the season.

Holding on to a one goal lead in the third, the Little Flyers looked to add a little insurance.  At the 3:51 mark of the third period, Avery Smith deflected a Matt Sheaffer shot into the back of the net, putting the Little Flyers up by two.  The goal was Smith’s 4th in three games, Magill-Diaz picked up his second assist of the game on the play.  With a two goal lead, Brawley would take care of the rest, stopping all 14 shots he faced in the third period.  The 4-2 win was Brawley’s league leading 9th win of the season.

Savel, Ochterbeck Selected to Team EHL

Little Flyers forwards Joey Savel and Alex Ochterbeck have been named to Team EHL for an exhibition game on October 21st against the UMass Boston Beacons.  Savel and Ochterbeck will be joined by 18 other EHL players that were chosen for the All-Star team.   There will be some familiar faces on the other side of the ice, as the Beacons are expected to have four Little Flyer Alums on their roster this season including 2014-15 EHL Defenseman of the year Gabe Chuckran, Junior Garrett Gallagher, Junior Drew Gannon and Freshman Evan Heldt.  While the game gives Savel and Ochterbeck the opportunity to play against one of the top NCAA D3 hockey teams in the country it also gives the Beacons coaching staff an up close look at the league’s top scoring duo.  The game is scheduled for 4:00 PM at Clark Athletic Center on the UMass Boston campus.
