Aston, PA — On Sunday the Philadelphia Little Flyers Eastern Hockey League Premier League team hosted the Philadelphia Revolution in a South Conference matchup.  Heading into the game the Little Flyers held a one point lead in the standings over the Revolution.

Reigning EHLP Goaltender of the Month Ryan Creenan was in net for the Little Flyers.  The home team Little Flyers would strike first to take an early lead.  Kyle Scott, forced a turnover in the Revolution zone and sent the puck cross ice to a wide open Ryan Sharkey at the side of the net to take the 1-0 lead.  Less than a minute later the Revolution answered back to tie the game at 1-1.  Creenan was busy in the period, facing 16 shots from the Revolution but kept the game tied heading into the intermission.

The second period was a wild one, the Revolution’s Jake Houk gave his team their first lead of the game just 2:17 into the period.  The intensity grew in the second with several scrums breaking out after the whistle.  Just over halfway through the game, Little Flyers defenseman Nate Dunning knotted the game at 2-2.  Dunning all alone in the slot took a pass from Austin Mazzulo to beat the Revolution’s Anthony Shrum, Sharkey was also credited with an assist on the play.  Less than a minute later, the home team Little Flyers regained the lead.  Dylan Frasher chipped the puck to Steve Rubillo who skate the puck through the neutral zone and sent the puck towards the net.  Rubillo’s shot took a funny bounce that was misplayed by Shrum and ended up in the net. Several minutes later the Revolution would tie the game back up at 3-3 on a Nick Giaramita goal.  One minute later, the Little Flyers found themselves back on top when Austin Mazzulo won a face-off back to Brett Turner at the blue line, Turner’s wrist shot found its way through traffic and into the back of the net.  Tempers boiled over in the closing minutes of the second period as the two teams combined for 56 penalty minutes including five ten minute misconducts for unsportsmanlike conduct.

As the third period began, the Little Flyers held a 4-3 lead with twenty minutes left to play.  As they had done all day, the Revolution tied the game back up on Sean Garry’s second goal of the game.  Less than a minute later the Little Flyers were shorthanded with the Revolution looking to take the lead.  Creenan and the defense were up to the task, blocking several Revolution shot attempts to keep the game tied at 4-4.  A few minutes after successfully killing off the penalty, Kyle Scott picked up the puck at center ice and moved into the Revolution on a 2-on-2 with Dylan Frasher.  Frasher got past a Revolution defenseman and took a pass from Scott alone with the goalie, Frasher used a quick forehand backhand move to slide the puck into the net giving the Little Flyers a 5-4 lead.  With less than five minutes to play, the Little Flyers found themselves shorthanded one last time, this time for five minutes because of a major penalty.  In a total team defensive effort, the Little Flyers limited the Revolution’s scoring chances and held on for the 5-4 victory.  Creenan’s 30 save performance earned his 7th victory of the season, tying him for 6th most in the league.

The Little Flyers finish off their 2017 with a game on the road against the Jr.Flyers who currently lead the South Conference with a 19-1-3 record.  The two teams will face off on Saturday December 16 at 6:30pm at Iceline.  The game can be seen live on HockeyTv.
