EHLP: Trudeau's Overtime Goal Downs Panthers

Aston,PA — The Little Flyers EHL Premier team looked to end a three game losing streak on Saturday against the Central Penn Panthers in a South Conference match up.

     Daniel Miller, was making his first start of the season in net for the Little Flyers.  Philadelphia jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as Ryan Sharkey put a shot past the Panthers Garret Baldacci.  The goal was Sharkey’s 19th of the season, Nico Trudeau picked up an assist on the goal.  Miller kept the Panthers offense off the scoreboard in the period, making 6 saves.  

     Less than five minutes into the second period, Central Penn tied the game with an even strength goal from Wes Gilbert.  Three minutes later, the Visiting Panthers took advantage of a power play opportunity to take their first lead of the game.  Even though the Little Flyers were heavily outshooting the Panthers, 32-18 through two periods they trailed 2-1 heading into the third period.

     The Little Flyers tied the game with a power play goal of their own at the 4:55 mark of the third period.  Good puck movement between Nate Dunning and Eric Maard lead to a Max McAllister goal.  Austin Mazzulo, gave the Little Flyers the lead back several minutes later when he took a pass from Sharkey and beat Baldacci for his 9th goal of the season.  With under a minute left to play in the game, Central Penn tied the game on Gilbert’s second goal of the game.  Neither team could break the tie in the last fifty seven seconds of play, overtime was needed to decide this game.  

     Forty seconds into overtime, a Panthers penalty gave the Little Flyers a man advantage in a 4-on-3 situation.  On the Power Play McAllister picked the puck up in the neutral zone and carried it in to the Panthers zone.  McAllister, dished the puck over to Trudeau who was crashing towards the net.  Trudeau, put the puck past Baldacci for the game winning goal.  Miller, picked up the win with a 22 save performance in his Little Flyers debut.

     On Sunday, the Little Flyers traveled to New Jersey for a game against the 87s who are currently in 2nd place in the South Conference.  Kolin Grogesky was in net for the Little Flyers looking for his 11th win of the season.  Grogesky and the Little Flyers defense limited the 87s scoring chances in the first period, holding the Home team to just seven shots on goal through the first 20 minutes of play.  The two teams headed into the first intermission in a scoreless tie.  The second period was similar to the first with the Little Flyers out shooting the 87s but the visitors couldn’t put a goal on the scoreboard.  New Jersey finally broke the scoreless time with twenty eight seconds remaining in the second period to take a 1-0 lead.  

     Just over five minutes into the third period, the 87s doubled their lead with an even strength goal.  New Jersey kept the pressure on the Little Flyers, taking a commanding 4-0 lead with five minutes left to play in the game.  Brett Turner netted the Little Flyers first goal of the game at the 18:19 mark of the third period but it was too little too late as the 87s took this one by a final score of 4-1.  Grogesky made 27 saves in the game.

     The Little Flyers only have one game on the schedule this weekend.  They will be on the road Saturday for a game against the Philadelphia Revolution.  The game can be seen live on HockeyTv.
