Aston,PA — On Wednesday morning the Little Flyers and Philadelphia Revolution played for the sixth and final time of the EHL regular season.  Coming into the game the Revolution and Little Flyers were ranked numbers 1 and 4 respectively in the EHL Power Rankings.  The Revolution led the season series 3-2 heading into the final match up.

Coming off of his second loss of the season with the Little Flyers, Goaltender Alex Henson looked to get back to his winning ways, Henson was opposed by the Revolution’s Peter Ciccarelli.  The Revolution struck first, with an even strength goal from Alex Pelletier in the slot.  Less than a minute later the Little Flyers found themselves shorthanded, but aggressive penalty kill by the Little Flyers shut down the Revolution power play opportunity.  With under four minutes to play in the first period, Mitchell Hall chipped the puck to Little Flyers defenseman Ziki Mroz moving through the neutral zone.  Mroz, entered the Revolution zone on a 1-on-3 and sent a low shot towards the net off of Ciccarelli’s pads.  Following the puck, Mroz beat all three Revolution players to the loose puck and hammered it into the back of the net.  After twenty minutes of play, the two teams were deadlocked at one.

The Little Flyers began the second short handed and were able to keep the game tied at 1-1.  Just two minutes into the period, Nick Magill-Diaz played the puck out of the Little Flyers zone to Matt Sheaffer at center ice.  Moving into the Revolution zone on the wing, Sheaffer sent the puck towards the net where the hard charging Avery Smith beat his man and deflected the puck past Ciccarelli to take a 2-1 lead.  The teams continued exchanging scoring chances throughout the period with the Little Flyers maintaining the one goal until the final minutes.  The Revolution headed to their third power play of the game with five minutes left in the second period.  Henson and the Little Flyers did a good job limiting the Revolution’s chances for most of the man advantage.  With just nine seconds left on the power play, the Revolution’s Bryce Whitman put the puck past Henson to tie the game at two.  After two periods of play the Little Flyers held a 23-22 advantage in shots.

In the third period, Little Flyers had several chances to take the lead has they had three power plays in the first ten minutes of play.  It looked like the home team had taken the lead on the third power play but the goal was disallowed as the puck was played with a high stick.  As the two teams remained tied, it was Smith who came through for the Little Flyers.  Line-mate Ryan Galvin played the puck deep into the Revolution zone and backhanded the puck into an open area in front of the net. Smith was first to the puck and elevated it past Ciccarelli for his 16th goal of the season.  Henson was sharp through the last twenty minutes of play, as the Revolution posted 14 shots in the period.  With less than three minutes left to play, the Revolution headed back to the power play.  Little Flyers defense was up to the task and held on to the one goal lead to take this game by a final score of 3-2.  The 34 save win was Henson’s 14th victory of the season.

Up next, the Little Flyers will host the New York Applecore for a weekend series on February 10th and 11th on home ice at IceWorks Skating Complex.
