Aston, PA -- The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce 1997 birth year forward, Erick ‘Ricky’ Walsh, has committed to attend Framingham State University in the fall of 2018 to continue his education and hockey career.  Walsh, a 5’9” 175 lb native of Aston, Pennsylvania is in his second season with the Little Flyers Eastern Hockey League team.  The Framingham State University Rams, coached by Guy Angers are current members of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference. “We’re very proud of Rick on his commitment to Framingham State.  We are happy for him that he will get to continue to play with his friend and teammate Trevor Lewandoski.  Rick has been a special two year guy for us; he’s really grown as a young man and a player in his time here.  You couldn’t ask for a better person than Rick and his hard work and perseverance have really paid off for him on the ice as we look for him to play big minutes for us in the playoffs.” said Little Flyers Head Coach & General Manager George Lewis.  After appearing in 23 games last season, Walsh played in 42 games this season, scoring 8 goals and adding 10 assists for 18 total points.  Three of Walsh’s goals were game winners.

“I am very excited to further my education and Hockey career at Framingham State University. I would like to thank Coach Angers and Coach Bailey for the incredible opportunity.  I would like to thank my parents for everything they have done to get to where I am today; this wouldn’t have been possible without them.  I would also like to thank all the coaches I’ve had throughout the years but a special thank you to Coach Russo, Coach Lewis, Coach Narrigan and Coach Catron for all the time and effort they have put into me and my teammates to push us to the next level.   Lastly I would like to thank the Giacobbo family for the incredible opportunity the Little Flyer organization has given me; the past 5 seasons have been some I will never forget.  I look forward to next four years of being a student athlete at Framingham state.” Said Walsh.

Prior to making the EHL team last season, Walsh played in the Little Flyers youth program growing up and appeared in 13 games during the 2014-15 season in the MET junior hockey league for the Little Flyers.  In his first year in the EHL, Walsh was in and out of the lineup, appearing in 23 games, scoring just one goal.  His dedication and work ethic have led to an expanded role this year as a key player on the Little Flyers 3rd ranked penalty kill and as a leader in the locker room, being named an Assistant Captain midway through the season.  “We’ll miss Rick very much, but we’re excited to continue to watch him grow at the next level.  This is a well-deserved commitment and Coach Angers’ staff will be happy to get Rick on campus in the fall.” Concluded Lewis when speaking about what Walsh has meant to the Little Flyers organization.
