Little Flyers 10th NCAA Commitment of the Season

Aston, PA – The Philadelphia Little Flyers, members of the Eastern Hockey League are proud to announce 1997 birth year forward, Eric Higgins, has committed to attend Bryn Athyn College in the fall of 2018 to continue his education and hockey career.  Higgins, a 6’1” 185 lb native of Richboro, PA joined the Little Flyers in early November while still taking college courses at Lebanon Valley College.  The Bryn Athyn Lions, coached by Andrew Burke just completed their first season of NCAA DIII hockey.  There is a strong Little Flyers connection at Bryn Athyn as Burke is a Little Flyers alumnus who played juniors for the organization from 2006-2008 before committing and playing four years at UMass-Boston.   “We’re very proud of Eric on his commitment to Bryn Athyn.  After speaking with Coach Andrew Burke they are very excited about Eric and we think this is a great fit for both parties.  Higgs is a guy who can play in any situation and already has NCAA experience.  He will do an excellent job next season” said Little Flyers Head Coach and General Manager George Lewis.

“First off, I’d like to thank Coach George Lewis and the Giacobbo’s for allowing me to join the Little Flyers this year.  I also want to say thank you to all of my teammates for making me grow as a player, and for making this season one to remember.  Finally, I’d like to thank Coach Burke and Seravalli at Bryn Athyn for showing a persistent interest in me.  I am excited about this new opportunity to prove myself and look forward to joining the Lions in the Fall” said Higgins upon announcing his college commitment.

Higgins played in 29 regular season games, scoring 10 goals and adding 8 assists for 18 total points.  Two of Higgins 10 goals during the regular season were game winners, including the November 5th game against the Oilers which was his second game with the team.  During the EHL Frozen Finals Higgins scored his biggest goal of the season, netting the game winner in overtime against the Boston Jr. Rangers in game one of round robin play.  Lewis knows replacing Higgins will be a big task for the upcoming season due to the experience he brought the Little Flyers this past season “We’ll miss Higgs on and off the ice; he brought so much to our team.  Having a guy come from NCAA is very unique and a great experience for our guys to learn from.  He will be extremely difficult to replace, but we wish him luck and know he’ll continue to do a great job” Concluded Lewis.  Higgins is the 7th current Little Flyer to make an NCAA commitment this season, bumping the 2017-18 total to 10 with alumni commitments.
