18U – The Little Flyers 18U team swept the New Jersey Colonials in a two game weekend series.  In game one on Saturday, Jack Costible opened the scoring for the Little Flyers 4:01 into the first period,  Costible’s go ahead goal was assisted by Jake Moleski and Koby Howat.  The Little Flyers held a 1-0 lead heading into the second period where the offense began to heat up.  TJ Avellino’s power play goal extended the lead to 2-0 with Howat and Moleski collecting their second assists of the game.  The Colonials responded with a Power Play goal of their own to cut the Little Flyers lead to one but that would be all for the Colonials offense in the game.  Izy Seaman regained the two goal lead with help from Rasmus Berrebbah and Cole Soster.  To close the scoring in the second period, Costible recorded his second goal of the game getting helpers from Braedon Dougherty and Patrick O’Connell.  O’Connell continued the offensive outburst in the third period with a goal just forty seven seconds into the final frame,  David Matousek and Chris Blango registered assists on the goal.  Less than a minute later, Matousek lit the lamp with O’Connell and Booth providing the assists.  TJ Avellino collected his second goal of the game forty seconds later to put the game out of reach, just like the opening goal of the game, Jake Moleski and Koby Howat assisted on the Avellino goal.  Harrison Dumas capped the scoring in the game with an even strength goal at the 4:21 mark of the third period, Patrick O’Connell notched his fourth point of the game with the primary assist on the Duma goal, Brendan McGroary was credited with the secondary assist on the goal.  Harris Brotman made 34 saves in the 8-1 Little Flyers victory to get the win in goal. 

The Little Flyers offense kept rolling on Sunday, lighting the lamp ten times.  Conor Booth gave the Little Flyers the lead just forty seven seconds into the game on a feed from Chris Blango.  Koby Howat doubled the Little Flyers lead later in the first with an even strength goal, Cole Soster and Rasmus Berrebbah assisted on Howat’s goal.  With a 2-0 lead in the second period, Harrison Dumas and Conor Booth set up Patrick O’Connell to extend the lead to three.  David Matousek notched a second period power play goal at the 7:05 mark, Chris Blango and Harrison Dumas both collected their second assists of the game on the Matousek goal.  Less than a minute later, Matousek returned the favor to Dumas, setting him up for his first goal of the game, Patrick O’Connell picked up the secondary assist.  The Colonials were able to get on the scoreboard with a power play goal with seven minutes remaining in the period, but the Little Flyers offense remained aggressive, scoring three more times in the second period.  Koby Howat and David Matousek registered their second goals of the game two minutes apart.  Howat’s second even strength goal of the game came courtesy of Trent Gehringer and goaltender Liam Gross.  Jake Moleski’s unassisted goal ten seconds after Matousek’s goal put the game out of reach as the Little Flyers held a 8-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.  Izy Seaman and Harrison Dumas each registered goals in the third with Jack Costible assisting on both goals and Patrick O’Connell notching his 4th point of the game.  Liam Gross picked up the win in goal for the Little Flyers, stopping 19 of 20 shots and getting in the box score offensively, picking up his first career assist with the Little Flyers.

16U National – Matt Lynch turned in a great performance in goal for the Little Flyers Saturday as he shut down the Connecticut Chiefs offense, making 34 saves to lead the Little Flyers to a 2-0 shut out victory on the road.  After a scoreless first period, Daniel Whittock put the Little Flyers on the scoreboard, 5:20 into the second period.  Whittock’s goal, the eventual game winner was assisted by Thomas Sullivan and Sean Pomerantz.  Whittock’s second period goal would be the only scoring until the last minute of play when Andrew Henry set up Ryan Karbach for an empty netter to seal the 2-0 victory. 

Just like Lynch on Saturday, Matt Manzi was huge in net all day on Sunday for the Little Flyers as the team was on the road for a game against the Mercer Chiefs.  T.J. Caputo’s first period unassisted goal put the Little Flyers up 1-0 5:39 into the game.  Just over two minutes later, Timothy Whittock increased the Little Flyers lead to 2-0 with assists coming from Luke Riley and T.J. Caputo.  The two teams battled through a scoreless second period with the Little Flyers taking the 2-0 lead into the third.  Sean Pomerantz and Wesley Sweitzer connected on an even strength goal at the 6:06 mark of the final period of play.  The team effort on the weekend was undeniable as the Little Flyers held opponents scoreless for 101 minutes and 47 seconds until the Mercer Chiefs scored a goal with thirteen seconds left in the game for a final score of 3-1 Little Flyers.  Matt Manzi finished the game with 30 saves in the win.    

16U American – Sunday, the Little Flyers 16 American team hosted the North Jersey Avalanche on home ice.  The game remained scoreless after the first period of play, but the Avalanche offense came to life in the second period, taking a 3-0 lead heading into the final 17 minutes of play.  AJ Golden held the Little Flyers in the game most of the day, making 26 saves but it wasn’t enough as the offense couldn’t find the back of the Avalanche as the Little Flyers fell by a final score of 6-0.

2006 Bantam – After a 9-0 loss in AYHL play on Saturday, the Little Flyers 2006 team bounced back with a 6-2 win in an exhibition game against the Red Bank Generals.

2007 PeeWee – The 2007 Little Flyers traveled to Brewster New York for the Brewster Ice Arena Winter Classic, three of the teams five games were played on outdoor rinks.

Game one was an exciting back and forth matchup between the Little Flyers and Westchester Express.  Alec James led the offense, scoring two goals including the game tying goal late in the third period to send the game to a sudden death shootout, Jerry DiStefano assisted on both of James goals.  Thaddeus Raynish scored a second period unassisted goal that tied the game at 2-2.  In the sudden death shootout, Raynish scored on his shootout attempt with Westchester capitalizing on their attempt as well.  In round two of the shootout, Raynish  beat the Express goaltender but rang the puck off the post.  The Express took the game in the shootout,  Davis Fairbanks was clutch in net for the Little Flyers all game long, making big saves down the stretch in a tied game.

Game two was a tough one for the Little Flyers, after tying the game at 1-1 mid way through the first period, the NJ Freeze offense took over from there, netting five straight goals to take the game by a final score of 6-1. 

In Game three, Alec James dished out a season high five assists in a 6-5 Little Flyers victory over the Hartford Wolfpack.  Davis Fairbanks got the win in net for the Little Flyers.  After falling behind 1-0 early in the game Jason Beaman, came back to tie the game for the Little Flyers, Beaman’s goal was assisted by Blake D’Italia and Xavier Thomas.  Off the ensuing face-off, Alec James set up Bradyn Holmes to give the Little Flyers a 2-1 lead.  The two teams ended the first period tied at 2-2.  Blake D’Italia regained the lead for the Little Flyers early in the second period, courtesy of Alec James and Jerry DiStefano.  The Wolfpack scored back to back goals in the second to take their second lead of the day, but it was short lived as Thaddeus Raynish tied the game at 4-4 with under a minute left to play in the period.   Hartford took the lead midway through the final period but Bradyn Holmes and Thaddeus Raynish scored just over a minute and a half apart to put the Little Flyers up 6-5.  Raynish’s game winner was assisted by Alec James and Marco Mazzarelli.  Davis Fairbanks collected the win in goal.   

Game four saw the Little Flyers come back from a 2-0 deficit in the second period to beat the Nassau County Lions 5-4.  Jason Beaman found the back of the net twice in the game,  Beaman’s first goal of the game tied the game at 2-2 midway through the second period.  After the Lions took the lead back, Sean Albert’s unassisted even strength goal deadlocked the teams once again.  Alec James gave the Little Flyers their first lead of the day in the closing minutes of the second period, taking a pass from his brother Connor on the go ahead goal.  The Lions once again tied the game at the 8:55 mark of the third period but Jason Beaman’s second goal of the day sealed the victory for the Little Flyers, Bradyn Holmes collected the only assist on Beaman’s game winner.  Jacob Aranda picked up the win in net for the Little Flyers.

2010 Squirt -  In a three game road weekend, the Little Flyers played a double header on Saturday against the CT Jr. Whalers.  After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Sean Devine put the Little Flyers on the board to cut the Whalers lead in half.  The two teams played a scoreless second period to keep the 2-1 in favor of the Whalers going into the third.  Under a minute into the third period, the Whalers extended their lead to two once again; Nicholas Marra pulled the Little Flyers to within one with an even strength goal that was set up by Chase Bell.  The Little Flyers offense got a lot of good scoring chances in the third period, finishing the game with 38 shots on goal but could not find the game tying goal.  A Whalers power play goal late in the game sealed the 5-2 win for the home team.  Noah Russo made 23 saves for the Little Flyers in the game.

In game two, Russo was unbeatable, shutting out the Whalers to collect the road victory for the Little Flyers.  Luke Hartman led the way offensively, scoring a natural hat trick.  Hartman’s first of the game was an unassisted goal midway through the first period.  Two minutes later, Chase Bell set up Hartman for his second of the day.  Midway through the second period, Bell found Hartman once again to complete the natural hat trick, Shane Horkan collected the secondary assist on the goal.  Nicholas Marra extended the Little Flyers lead to 4-0 with an unassisted even strength goal.  Russo and the defense took care of the rest, not allowing the Whalers to get on the scoreboard and taking home a 4-0 shutout win. 

Sunday, the Little Flyers traveled to Long Island for a game against the Royals.  The home team Royals, found the back of the net twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.  Long Island added another goal in the second period to extend the lead to 3-0.  Lucas Solimini answered back on the next shift for the Little Flyers to cut the lead to 3-1, Shane Horkan dished out the only assist on the Solimini goal.  That was as close as the Little Flyers would get as Long Island added an insurance goal in the third to take the game by a final score of 4-1.  Noah Russo made 15 saves for the Little Flyers in the game.
