Little Flyers Capture 12U MAWHA Championship

Philadelphia Little Flyers Girls vs Lady Patriots

MAWHA Championship Game

A Tremendous Ending to the MAWHA Season for 12U PLF Girls

It does not matter how you get there as long as you get there…

The 12U Little Flyers Girls Team peaked at precisely the right moment this weekend to defeat their cross-town rivals the Lady Patriots for the MAWHA championship on Sunday Afternoon at Revolution Ice Gardens.  Coming into the game, the 12U PLF Girls had lost 4 consecutive games against the Lady Patriots and although they had competed increasingly well through the season – the result had consistently been the same – until the Championship game on Sunday.

Starting the tournament with a loss to the Lady Patriots Friday night followed up by a win against a tough Lady Islanders Team on Saturday afternoon, the 12U PLF Girls earned a spot in the Championship Game for the MAWHA title on Sunday afternoon.  Champions always rise to the occasion and the PLF Girls showed their Championship Spirit as they competed the Championship Game on Sunday Morning.

PLF Girls started the scoring in the first period with a blast coming off Caroline “the Cannon” Coen’s stick at 8:09 of the first period.  Scoring first really turned the tables on the Lady Patriots who have consistently earned early leads themselves through the season.  “Sniper” Sha netted the second of the game on a great play with 7:30 of the second period and that turned out to be all the girls would need to win the game.  Defending the 2-0 lead was not an easy task as the Lady Patriots pushed back hard through the second and third periods.  Selene “The Widowmaker” White eliminated all dreams of a championship for the Lady Patriots as she impersonated a brick wall on Sunday to ensure victory for the PLF Girls as they joined the 10U and 16U PLF Girls taking home MAWHA Championship banners back to Ice Works.

Congratulations for a well earned Championship!

U12 Girls: Down Phantoms in DVHL Action

Philadelphia Little Flyers Girls vs Delco Phantoms

DVHL League Action

The U12 Little Flyers Girls and the U12-A Delco Phantoms always play each other very tough and Monday night’s game was no exception.  If you ducked out of this game early, you may have missed one of the greatest comebacks in Little Flyer Girls history.  At the very least, you would have missed one heck of a hockey game.

Delco took a 1-0 lead early in the second period and although the momentum swung both directions for the first two periods, the teams exited the second period with only the single tally up on the scoreboard.  Boy did things change in the third period.  Delco was able to extend their lead in the third period, putting the PLF Girls down 2-0 on a shorthanded goal.  Normally this would take the wind out of an ordinary team’s sails, but this year has shown that the U12 PLF Girls are anything but ordinary.  The PLF Girls scored with 3:15 left as sniper Allison Sha netted their first goal of the night.  This was immediately responded to as Delco again extended the lead to make it 3:1. The PLF Girls coaching staff engaged some trick hockey analytics by immediately pulling the goalie which led to Ali Dembzynski pulling PLF Girls back to within one less than one minute later.  As the clock winded down and the PLF Girls pressuring with the goalie still out, Ali “the Sniper” Sha evened the game at three with her second of the night only 5 seconds left on the clock!

As overtime began, the teams put their best offensive weapons on the ice and it only took Sophia Norquist a minute to utilize her offensive skills to find the five-hole on Delco’s goalie to seal the victory and cap off an amazing comeback.  The grit and grace of this team was on full display tonight as they earned a hard-fought OT win in DVHL action.
