12 Little Flyers make 16U Academic Honor Roll

Aston, PA – The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) recently named their All-NAPHL T1er 16U teams for the Central, East and West Divisions.  The NAPHL selects these players based on player performance in all NAPHL regular season and playoff games. “Having 3 players awarded to the eastern division All-NAPHL team is quite an accomplishment. That represents 50% of the All-East team and is something these well deserving players, and our organization should be extremely proud of. All 3 of these young men represented our club with the highest of standards every day they put on that Little Flyer jersey and I am extremely proud, and thankful for all 3 of them.” Said Little Flyers 18U Head Coach and General Manager Dave Dorman.

All-NAPHL 16U Team Forward – Dominick Dalessandro -

Dalessandro was the leading forward scorer for the East Division Champion Little Flyers in NAPHL play, in 20 total games, he scored 8 goals and added 9 assists for 17 points.  The 5’10” 140 LB forward from West Chester, Pennsylvania registered five multiple point games, including a streak of four straight games with multi point performances.  Dalessandro was also named to the NAPHL Academic Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom.   

All- NAPHL 16U Defense – Nicolas Dignazio –

Dignazio, the Little Flyers Captain led the team in most offensive categories including Goals (7), Assists (11) and Game Winning Goals (3).  The 5’9” 150 LB defenseman from Wallingford, Pennsylvania also finished in the top 10 amongst all NAPHL defenseman in goals, points and game winning goals.  Dignazio was also named to the NAPHL Academic Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom.      

All- NAPHL 16U Goalie – Christian Amato –

Amato, posted a 6-3 record for the East Division Champion Little Flyers during the NAPHL season.  He finished the season with a 1.40 Goals Against Average and .900 save percentage.  In the Dixon Cup Playoffs, Amato went 2-1 including a 6-0 shutout win against the Madison Capitols.  Amato was also named to the NAPHL Academic Honor Roll for his performance in the classroom.

The Little Flyers also had a total of twelve players named to the NAPHL Academic Honor Roll.  Christian Amato, Aries Carangi, Dom Dalessandro, Nicholas Dignazio, Nick Fiore, Julian Gavin, Kevin Hudak, Matthew Kratchwell, Mike McDevitt, Darin O'Dell, Aydin Thierolf, Michael Tordone.  “I am a big believer in mind and body and that those two things go as one. It is of no surprise to me that 12 of our players were awarded with making the NAPHL All-Academic Honor Roll. Excellence on and off the ice are of no coincidence and our club continues to be a league leader in this area. It’s a testament to our players and families, and something we are all proud of” said Coach Dorman when speaking on the importance of his players taking care of their academics in the classroom. 

2012's go 3-1 in AYHL, Dalessandro Leads 16U at NAPHL Showcase

Aston, PA --  It was a busy weekend of action for the Philadelphia Little Flyers Youth Hockey Club.  Take a look below to catch up on all of the results.

2012 – Squirt Minor -  It was a busy weekend for the 2012 Little Flyers, playing four AYHL games in a two day span.  Playing with a short bench, Coach Morrissey had the team ready to go against two tough opponents in the JR. Flyers and Avalanche.  In game one against the Jr. Flyers, the Little Flyers found themselves down 1-0 early in the first period but immediately found a response as Bryce McCullough and Kolten Mazza each found the back of the net less than thirty seconds apart to give the Little Flyers a 2-1 lead.  Tyler Panaro registered the only assist on McCullough’s tying goal.  Once the Little Flyers gave their goaltender Adam Simpson the one goal lead, he was lights out, stopping 17 Jr. Flyers shots in the 2-1 victory.  Game two between the cross-town rivals was a back-and-forth affair, the game saw four lead changes that ended with the Jr. Flyers evening the weekend series with a 4-3 win.  Mazza netted two of the Little Flyers goals with an assist on his first of the game going to McCullough, Joey Meier scored his first AYHL goal of the season with 2:01 left in the second period.  Adam Simpson made 27 saves in net for the Little Flyers.

Sunday, the Little Flyers welcomed the NJ Avalanche to IceWorks Skating Complex, Philadelphia came out hot in the first period putting three goals on the scoreboard.  Tyler Panaro, Bryce Holzer and Christian Kreysa each scored Little Flyers goals in the first with Grayer Sheronas and Joey Meier picking up assists.  Sheronas set up Tyler Panaro for a goal with time winding down in the second period to give the Little Flyers their biggest lead of the day at 3-1.  The Avalanche would score another goal late in the 3rd to make the final score 4-2 in favor of the Orange and Black.  Kellan Peer picked up his first AYHL win of the season in net with 18 saves.  In game two, it was again the combination of Panaro and McCullough to put the Little Flyers on the board early, just 22 seconds into the game, later in the period Panaro became the set-up man for Christian Kreysa’s first goal of the game to put the Little Flyers up 2-0 after the first.  The Avalanche came roaring back in the second period, putting up three goals to take a brief 3-2 lead midway through the second.  Tyler Panaro tied the game at 3-3 with his second goal of the game, Kolten Mazza was credited with an assist on the Panaro goal.  The two teams headed into the 3rd period deadlocked at three apiece, the game would remain tied until Joey Meier gave the Little Flyers back the lead with 5:55 left in the third period on an unassisted goal.  Kellan Peer and the Little Flyers defense kept the Avalanche at bay the rest of the game, Christian Kreysa sealed the Little Flyers third win of the weekend with an empty net goal to take the game by a final score of 5-3.  Peer finished the game with 24 saves and his second win of the weekend.  A great three-win weekend for a Little Flyers team that only had 8 skaters for the four games over two days. 


2009 – PeeWee Major -  The Little Flyers picked up two impressive wins in non-league action.  Rocco Trivarelli’s two goals led the offense in a 7-0 win against the New Jersey Hitmen.  Aidan Wright was lights out in net with a shutout.  The second win of the weekend came against the Woodbridge Wolfpack.  Ty Mcgroarty scored all three Little Flyers goals with a hattrick in Philadelphia’s 3-1 win over the Wolfpack. 

2008 – Bantam Minor – The Little Flyers hosted the Philadelphia Revolution on Sunday at IceWorks in a non-league matchup.  The Revolution took the lead with 8:10 remaining in the opening period of play but, the Little Flyers quickly responded with a Chase MacAdams goal that was assisted by Tristian Mitchell.  Less than a minute later, Charlie Dietz gave the Little Flyers a 2-1 lead with help from line mates Cole Rice and Daniel Dowling.  MacAdams second goal of the game gave the Little Flyers a 3-1 advantage.  The Revolution once again got to within a goal with an even strength goal at the 9:31 mark of the second period, but Chase MacAdams’ second goal of the game reestablished the Little Flyers two goal advantage heading into the final period.  Jesse Xiong made the game 5-2 in the Little Flyers favor taking a feed from Alexander Klotzbach with under seven minutes to play.  The Revolution would not go away as they got to within one of the Little Flyers with back-to-back goals late in the third period but the Little Flyers defense held on for the 5-4 victory.  Richie Geiser made 26 saves in the Little Flyers win.    

        
2006 – 15U Pure - 
The Little Flyers 15U team was also in Blaine, Minnesota for the NAHL & NAPHL Showcase.  Callahan Schultz made 32 saves for the Little Flyers in net against Biggby Coffee AAA, Nathan DeLorme scored the Little Flyers lone goal in the game at the 14:25 mark of the 3rd period with an assist from Zachary Dembzynski on the power play.  Biggby Coffee used a three goal first period as the difference maker in the game as they defeated the Little Flyers 4-1.

The Little Flyers outshot the Madison Captials in their game on Saturday 32-20, Madison was able to strike first in the game and hold a 1-0 lead into the 2nd period.  After trailing 2-0, Grayson Esposito got the Little Flyers to within one when he scored at the 16:23 mark of the period, Brian Rhoads and Gareth McDonald were credited with assists on the play.  With the goalie pulled late in the third, Madison was able to score an empty net goal in a 3-1 victory.  For the Little Flyers, Henry Goossen made 17 saves in net. 

In their final game of the showcase, the Little Flyers offense couldn’t solve the Indy Jr Fuel’s defense even though they had plenty of shots on goal.  Indy jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the game and maintained their lead throughout the game, handing the Little Flyers a 4-0 loss.



2005 Midget 16U -  The Little Flyers 16U National team was in Blaine, Minnesota for the NAHL & NAPHL Blaine Showcase.  The Little Flyers finished the showcase with a 3-1 record against some of the top competition in the country.  Game one, against the Esmark Stars was a defensive battle throughout the game with neither team giving an inch in the first two periods.  Esmark broke the 0-0 tie at the 15:35 mark of the 3rd period to take the game by a final score of 1-0.  Aries Carangi made 29 saves for the Little Flyers in the 1-0 loss. 

In game two, the Little Flyers used a big third period to beat the Tri State Spartans by a final score of 4-1.  Brody Bess opened the scoring in the game 8:25 into the 2nd period with helpers from Mikey McDevitt and Dominick Dalessandro.  Four minutes later the Spartans tied the game at 1-1.  At the 12:21 mark of the 3rd period, the Little Flyers offense took over the game.  McDevitt and Dalessandro connected to put the Little Flyers up 2-1.  Then Julian Gavin and Luke Melito scored back-to-back goals to give the Little Flyers a commanding 4-1 lead late in the final period of play, Charles Antrilli and Joseph Samango picked up assists on the goals.  Aries Carangi and Christian Amato split goaltending duties in the game, combining to make 21 saves in the game.

Nicolas Dignazio’s four-point game set the tone for the Little Flyers in game three of the showcase, a 6-1 win over Biggby Coffee.  Dignazio opened the scoring for the game on an unassisted goal in the first period.  Four Little Flyers goals in the second period by Aydin Thierolf, Dignazio, Luke Melito and Dominick Dalessandro set Philadelphia up with a comfortable lead heading into the final period of play.  Dalessandro with help from Dignazio and Avery Hudson scored his second goal of the game to give the Little Flyers a 6-1 victory.  Christian Amato made 8 saves while picking up the win in net.

Against the Indy Jr Fuel, Amato and Carangi combined to shutout the fuel in a 6-0 Little Flyers win.  The goaltending duo had plenty of help in front of them on the offensive end.  First period goals scored by Julian Gavin and Eric McHale gave the Little Flyers a two-goal cushion after the first period.  Charles Leuthold and Luke Melito assisted on the Gavin goal, Kevin Hudak and Darin O’Dell helped find McHale for his first of the NAPHL season.  Mikey Tordone wasted little time finding the back of the net in the second period, Danny White and Aydin Thierolf were credited with assists on the goal.  In the next four minutes of game play, Luke Melito (unassisted) and Dominick Dalessandro got in on the scoring to put the Little Flyers up 5-0.  Logan Soster’s Power Play goal in the 3rd period capped the scoring for the game.  

 
18U Elite - 
The Little Flyers went 1-1 on the weekend in AYHL play.  On Saturday, Brandon Novabilski made 31 saves against the Palmyra Black Knights but the offense couldn’t get going in a 4-0 loss to the Black Knights.  The Little Flyers offense bounced back in a big way on Sunday, finding the back of the net 11 times against the NJ Junior Titans.  Christian Rappatoni and Tony Tuozzo led the way, each scoring two goals.  The game was tied 1-1 after the first period but the Little Flyers used a big five goal second period to put the game out of reach.  After opening the scoring in the first, Tuozzo added his second of the game in the second period.  Billy Loughnane, Jonathan Anthony, Konnor Savvas and San Lawless all netted second period Philadelphia goals.  The offense remained hot in the third period with the Little Flyers lighting the lamp five more times including two by Rappatoni, Braydon Clemens, Ryan Debro and Evan Golato.  Matthew Beatty kept the Titans offense at bay, making 22 saves in the 11-2 win.

18U Premier – The Little Flyers 18U Premier team returned to NAPHL play after falling in overtime in the Championship game last season.  The Little Flyers faced a tough test right off the bat in the form of the Des Moines Buccaneers.  The two teams played a scoreless first period with the Little Flyers outshooting the Bus 6-3.  Des Moines got on the board less than a minute into the 2nd period, but the Little Flyers answered back with a Ryan Talorico goal assisted by Sam Morganti and Zach Crain.  Before the end of the second period, Des Moines would regain the lead, 2-1 heading into the third period of play.  Just 1:34 into the 3rd period, Braedon Dougherty and Andrew Hodolitz set up Hunter Engelman for the game tying goal.  Once again, Des Moines answered back to take a one goal lead once again.  A minute after going down by a goal, Chase Hannon and Andrew Henry tied the game for the Little Flyers.  Des Moines was able to put the game away with back-to-back goals separated by less than a minute to win the game 5-3.

Friday, the Little Flyers and Northstar Knights met once again in NAPHL play.  Tyler Temoyan made 28 saves for Philadelphia in the start between the pipes.  The Northstar’s were able to score two goals in the first period and limit the Little Flyers offense to a Nathan Rabadam power play goal in the second period.

Saturday night, the Little Flyers found themselves back in the win column behind a 27 save performance by Michael Manzi.  The two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first period with Joseph Samango netting the Little Flyers goal 4:19 into the game.  Hunter Engelman’s power play goal in the second period gave the Little Flyers the lead at the 5:01 mark, Rabadam and Dougherty assisted on the goal.  Midway through the third period, Roman Vitolo scored the eventual game winner with the help of Andrew Henry and Andrew Hodolitz. 

In their last game of the showcase, Sammy Phillips played hero as he netted the game winning goal 1:12 into overtime to even the Little Flyers record at 2-2.  Matt Harris opened the games scoring 6:04 into the first, Chase Hannon and Hunter Hayes picked up assists on Harris’ first of the NAPHL season.  After a scoreless second period, Carshield tied the game 6:36 into the 3rd period.  That would be all that Tyler Temoyan and the Little Flyers defense would give up as it was Phillips who found the back of the net for the game winner in overtime.
